New UK Thread

The plot with Lear is he challenged his daughters with a creepy demand "How much do you love me?" when he was only slightly mad, then threw a wobbly, shouts a bit, shouts at the weather proper mad, comes to his senses, everyone dies, The end.
Imagine pitching that as an outline to a modern-day publisher. Shakespeare must have had a bloody good agent. :D

He didn't need one, He was writing for his own theatre company. They would perform whatever he wrote.

UK weather is nuts - 20c cooler today and I've just pulled on jeans for the first time in ages because I was shivering. It feels suddenly odd to have my legs encased... but warmer. I gather it'll soon be back to stupid centrigrade though.
Today I have done a 330 mile round trip along southcoast and back.
Dark, brilliant sunshine, torrential rain, sunshine, flooding. Sunshine and humid, torrential rain and floods.
Back home. . . Dry.
Good old British weather

enjoy it while it lasts. surely the worst is past, now? *fingers crossed*

cooler couple of days here (by comparison)... low 80s, cloudy, lower humidity factor. Been outdoors clearing grass and weeds that were sprouting on the walkway outside the back door (the one everyone uses), seeing to chickens and animals, doing laundry AND vacuuming. Was a sweaty mess by the time it was over but back indoors, all windows open, no need for even a fan. SUCH a nice respite!

ooh, and one of the new chickens has laid their first egg! small, brown, and rather cute.

Seven miles away our local city has had flash flooding.

We have had few drops of rain, enough just to wet the pavement and no more.

Grr!

chicken update from Tennessee :D

so, yesterday, i noticed a chicken out of the run and had to catch her & return her. I added more soft plastic fencing higher up to deter them from hopping up onto the horizontal bar and into the yard. THEn i noticed we were 1 short, the small only all black hen.

Looked around the place, found a whole bunch of feathers in the big veggie garden so assumed a hawk had got her.

2.30am and there was a racket outside my bedroom window (opens onto the front porch, our dog's hangout spot). Ran outside in the nude (the neighbours were safe, they can't see because of trees) and saw our dog had brought her up onto the porch. Coyotes were screaming somewhere close and this is the second time our great pyr has 'rescued' a chicken... no idea where the first one originally lived but she was my pal. Anyway, the hen was soaking wet, more than half bald, and not happy about being rescued by the big dawg :D I threw on a nightie and picked her up, walked out into the thick overnight mist and put her back with her friends in the coop. Husband managed to sleep right the way through the excitement! She was doing fine today, just looking kinda scrubby with no tail feathers. Calling her Lucky. So now we have a Lucky, a Gloria (as in Estofan), a Betty (as in White: small, pale grey, kinda cute), and Richard (King dick), the rooster. Still gotta find names for the others and need to watch them a bit more before deciding.

No more eggs yet.

/update

hope you all have a great day.

That’s way to much excitement for 2.30am. Liked the running around in the nude, 😂

Decades ago at a crossroads in our local village, a truck trailer overturned. It was carry 5,000 crated chickens and over 1,000 escaped. Most of the villagers turned out to catch chickens but 200 wouldn't be caught at the time. The villagers had chicken dinners for weeks.

After six series ‘Better Call Saul’ is finished. I’m heartbroken, but wow, what a final episode. TV at its finest.

We're going to go to work on overtime to pay for the energy we're not using at home because we're at work.

Energy pricing is a work in progress. 'If you used more, we could charge you more. But if you use less, we're going to need to charge you more. OK?'

Oh right got it.
Its a sort of let me piss down your back and tell you its raining.
Thats where we've all been going wrong.

The energy companies have suggested the UK borrows 50billion over ten years so we can afford to buy their energy while they make 65 billion profit over the same period... proper economics.

Besides, energy's a difficult product - it's not like they found it in a hole in the ground or something
I used to do that.
Find it in a hole in the ground.A very deep hole.
Im an ex mineral extraction engineer.
Trust me on this, none of you have been or will be as dirty as me.

On the one hand a cold brutal winter will do wonders in reducing the pensioner population. But on the other hand the vote in bigger numbers than most other age groups. So the pensioners will probably get looked after. The undesirable poor will muddle thru as best they can but a spike in kids being placed into care and even bigger spike in the number of food banks won't play well.
The full horror of foreign ownership of natonal utilities and infrastructure will come home to roost this winter. Companies have a requirement to make a return to their shareholders. So fuck you pay me.

Reductions in pensioners.
Councils call winter "bungalow season".
Thats when alot of council bungalows suddenly become "available".

Memories of a nice chicken pie with tiny veg inside like carrots and peas.
Delish!

i've a chest freezer full to the gills with garden produce waiting for me to process... normally i'm cooking jams & jellies and soups and stuff as the fresh produce comes in. Been way too hot this year to even consider it... waiting for cooler weather then i've got blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, squash, tomatoes, peppers and more. Not complaining, just not been cooking what i normally would. Gonna be a busy bee come October.
