I was looking through the list of contests and there's quite a gap between Nude Day and Halloween. Laurel is open to the idea of adding another contest. So any suggestions for another themed contest? I was thinking about one along the lines of "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", a contest about vacations, holidays etc.

If there's any interest in adding another contest, now's the time to put forward your ideas.

Summer travel themes would be good! Or just summer in general - not everybody can travel and take holidays, but you never know what could happen when the air conditioning goes out in a large office building. Right?

Yes, summer in general would work. (Could get sweaty in the office building:D)

Those suit jackets come off pretty damned quick when it starts getting hot, you know. ;)

Would suggest a 'Dog Days' theme, but that would lead to the whole animal thing, and just... ew.

Summer... it's been the warmest day of the year here... and people (girls who really shouldn't be allowed out like that!) have dressed accordingly. Summer Vacation sounds good. Not that I've written anything for Lit in well over a year

The heat is on

I love summer and all the naked fun to be had. Bring it on.

No one ever wants to see the photos from my summer vactions until I mention I spent them at a nudist camp. ;)

How about something like "Summer Interludes," leaving the possibilities open.

Summer Vacation!

"How I Spent My Summer Vacation"
I *LIKE* this idea! It avoids a specific summer holiday, while covering what is pretty universal: Summer comes and people take vacations, trips, go to summer camps, retreats....

I think that'd be the perfect contest to have between Nude Day and Halloween, especially as it can cover any summer holiday or festival in any country. Forth of July, County fairs, road trips....

The only other possible contest title along this line I could image would be "Midsummer Night's Dream" but I don't think that's nearly so broad in scope. I vote "Summer Vacation" contest.

Edited to add: What I especially like about this theme is that it's wonderfully global. Lit's become a global community/site, and this would be a great contest for multi-national stories and storytelling: "A Visit to the U.S." or "A Holiday in India" or "July in Europe," and, of course: "Sex and the Summer Olympics." :D It really opens the door to international stories.

" The Interludes of Summer Contest "
What I did for summer vacation strikes to close to show and tell the first week back at school..... erhhhh I was attacked by a swarm of praying mantis's count?

The problem with something as specific as "Summer Vacation" (if what I'm reading in the current Earth Day Contest is any gauge) is that you get a lot of lame half references at the beginning of story to "sort of" qualify it, and these references tend to cheapen the story rather than enhance it. Might as well keep the theme really broad, I think. In fact, with the current contest, I don't see why anyone submitting any story at all to Lit. during this period doesn't just enter it. The voting probably isn't going to pay attention to the theme--and many of the entrants certainly aren't.

Summer Vacation was just an idea to get the discussion started. It could be about summer in general....or it could be about something entirely different. It could be a Gay/Lesbian/Bi contest if there's enough interest in that.

Personally, I think it would be great to have a contest that covers only a few categories. That way the readership voting would be pretty much the same (or very similar) for all of the stories in the contest. Pitting one author's "Loving Wives" story against another's "Romance" story is like playing chess without your rook. I'd love to see a GLBT contest, or even a Loving Wives contest. It would be a better test of writing than category appeal. IMHO. I'm supposed to add that, right? :D

I like the idea of a 'Loving wives' contest. The winner need only score 3.2 rather than 4.8 then I'd really be in with a chance. But that would make Ogg's last place contest very close.

Or maybe an incest only contest which must include the Mom/sis/aunt whatever getting pregnant.

What about a Yorkshire Day contest (August 1st):D

Incest with mom/sis/aunt on Yorkshire day involving Yorkshire pudding....

or Labor Day. The main character has to be pregnant. Although it's possible I've messed this Labor Day thing up.

Here's a suggestion that will most likely be ignored: Doing your civic duty; from charity work to exposing corruption in government to unionizing the workplace to legalizing prostitution - basically, any activity that addresses how individuals interface with government and/or the social welfare of society - combined with the sexual escapades that so often accompany those activities.

We are a socially-aware bunch. Why not explore a subject that could have the potential to educate the readers, as well as ourselves? Jenny's Earth Day piece is a good example. It makes you think about the excesses of government, which is the first step towards changing the government for the better.

Sticking the 'Doing your Civic Duty' contest between Nude Day and Halloween would seem to strike a good balance between fluff and depth. I, for one, don't need to read another hundred stories about fucking in the sunshine. But fucking in the elevator at the Courthouse? That, to me, sounds interesting.

You've describes my entry for last year's Earth Day.
