I submitted a new story Wednesday and it hasn't even been "Viewed" yet! I usually get about 3 views immediately, then it gets posted about 3 to 7 days later.

Has anyone else had this problem RECENTLY?
Is there some dumb contest going on that is taking up their time?
Thanks

This has been an ongoing problem. There is a contest going on, although it might have ended by now, and contest entries are given priority. If you submit a story and it has no views after three days, there is a good chance it might have somehow been unnoticed and it might be a good idea to re-submit it. Usually there are three views within two days and then it gets posted about five days or so later.

The answer to that question is an unqualified yes. Recently, the "submit" button has failed repeatedly. I've seen frustrated threads started, and It Happened To Me, as they used to say in Argosy magazine.

Hit the pending link. If you've seen no views for a matter of days, it may be that you never actually got the site to believe that you submitted at all. If it brings you back to the Submit page, with the little check box saying "I agree" and all that jive, then you need to scroll down and hit "Submit" again. In two days or three, you ought to see some views. Or you might need to do it again.

The deadline for the current contest is over, so there ought to be nothing unusual in the way of a couple of views fairly soon. But the thing is tricky about really seeing the submit function just lately.

Same Proplem. I must have 10 stories still "Pending."

Also, when a story has been rejected, why don't they just remove it?

Third idea suggestion. Notification or marking of new public comments?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I always login through a shortcut using "This link" in the submissions area. This takes me directly to my "View Submissions page where I can click Forum or View Submissions.
This is my little shortcut to keep from logging in every time. :)
When I view my submissions, it does show Pending. I had clicked that once before and saw my submission and a "Thank you for submitting" type message. It did NOT take me back to the "I Agree" screen, so I believe that it was submitted correctly the first time.

I went there today and actually clicked "Submit" again, even though it might put me in the bottom of the cue. That's OK if they are still dealing with the contest fallout, etc. I saw the final day for announcements of the winners is the 14th, so I would rather my story come out after that anyway. Maybe it will hit on my birthday, the 17th!
:D

Vargas, good luck with your submissions.
10 pending at one time??!! That's a lot. Maybe you should submit them one at a time. Not telling you what to do, but it might be easier to get them posted and get the view and votes you want.
And, notification of public comments - If you go into your "View Submissions" page, you can see, and click on the PC's, even before they show up in the story page! Try it.

Hi, Vargas.
When a story has been rejected, they don't remove it because frequently, it can be fixed and resubmitted easily. Also, that is YOUR submissions page and you are the one who makes changes on it.

The number of PC appears on the submissions page and it increases as new ones are posted.

Happy now

I finally got my 3 views today sometime, so now I'm happy.
I know it will get released now.

The problem should be a thing, literally, of the past:
originally a PM from Laurel, snipped for clarityHi again!

Manu and I think we figured things out. We seem to have had a glitch around the 4th or so that caused another problem. It looks like that glitch also affected a number of stories that were submitted during that time frame. These stories, though the author hit "SUBMIT", weren't actually pushed into the pending queue where I could see/approve them - hence the delay and the lack of views.

The problem was fixed, and seems confined to the stories that were submitted during a specific time period about a week or so ago. If your story is one of those, please try opening it and hitting SUBMIT again. This should register a view. If it doesn't work after a couple of tries, let me know!

If you could pass this on to anyone else you know who has this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again, and take care!

There's another thread in the Author's Hangout board, and I'll repeat this there, as well as start a new thread with it. Stay cool.

I did resubmit the rejected story and now both are there one as pending and one as rejected. I wish I cound remove it.

As for having so many pending at once. I did not submit them all at the same time. I submitted them over many days. But the just sit there "pending."

Yes it is true that the number of comments rises as new comments ane made, but ONce on has several storyies on the pate, it's hard to remember if story x had 6 comments or 7 so you have to open them again. I still wish there were a way of flagging a new comment.

Cheers

Why was the story rejected? If it only takes a minimum of effort it might be worth saving but certain things can not be salvaged, such as a story about violent raped rejected for that reason or a story about beastiality or child rape or some other reason like that. Such stories will never be accepted. Sometimes you can repair it by correcting typos or changing somebody's age or mentioning celebrating an eighteenth birthday or something simple like that. If it is not repairable, you can delete it by hitting delete, which is right next to submit. Your submission page is YOUR page and the management won't make changes except for your information.

It only takes a few seconds to find out if a PC is new or not. Just click on the "Moderate" line and look. If it is not new, just hit back. That's quicker and easier than keeping track. Some persons have hundreds of stories posted and no way to keep track of which story has how many comments.

Don't do this:

Well, after 11 days, my story was REJECTED! My first in 14 tries.
I had tried something different with this one, thinking it would make it easier for them to get it posted.
I copied TMCG Ch.03, replaced all the story, titles, etc with TMCG ch.04 data, and submitted it, thinking that if it was formatted exactly like it was posted that it would be easy to just click and post it.

They didn't like it formatted their way!

So I had to remove all their formatting and resubmit it.
I had problems with my first post getting formatted incorrectly.
After that, I always used Weird Harold's HTML testing format to submit my stories. That way, I know it will look like what I want it to, not what their program does to it.

I was trying to help cut down the posting time. It backfired.
I didn't want to wait 3 weeks for a posting, which it is leading to now. Oh, well.

I hope this helps someone else with their submissions.
Does anyone know which format is really the best one to use so that it will come out right, and take the least amount of time to post?

Laurel & Manu, Which do you prefer? It would be nice to tell us a preference rating, best, better, OK, acceptable, reject formats.

When I first started submitting stories, I did my writing in my mailbox and emailed stories in. This is a very unsatisfactory method because it took weeks to post anything and frequently I would get a rejection because I was told the story had not been received. Apparently there is a limit to how large an email can be received, and they were usually thousands of words.

Now I write on my HD and when a story is done, including the final edit, I go to the submissions page and fill in the details required, such as name, description, etc. Then I copy and paste from the HD onto the submissions page. I think that's the fastest and simplest method. I'm not even sure what the other methods are.

As for a story being rejected, that will happen if it includes bestiality or a person under 18 is involved in the sex. It CAN be rejected if there4 are a lot of errors and typos and some of mine have been when I was emailing them in. Your final edit should eliminate any such errors anyhow.

Stories can also be rejected for excess violence but that is harder to define. Some very violent stories have gotten through. Stuff like golden showers or brown showers, etc. might also be rejected. I don't like stories like that and never read or write them so I wouldn't try to find any of them in the site.

Mine was rejected because of the format

How does a story get rejected? Why?

You can actually copy the source of a web page and save it. I did that, then replaced my Chapter 3 with Chapter 4 data.
When you do that, there are a LOT of HTML "Tags" there that Lit's automated posting programs can't handle, apparently.

I always write my whole stories in MS Word so I can have help with spelling checker and grammar checker. When I'm done, I put it into Weird Harold's "Test your submission" form that you can find on the submissions help page. I have to manually put in the <i> </>and <br></br> tags.

However, when you do this and save the file as "xxx.htm", you can click on it and see exactly what it will look like when people read it in Lit. (In fact, I read through the story while having the story opened in a txt editor at the same time. When I see an error, I correct it in the editor, click refresh in the web page showing the story, and see the changes immediately.)

And BoxLicker, then you simple do a browse and find your file and load the file, right below the story pasting box, instead of cutting and pasting. DO NOT also paste the story in!

My last story - I saw 2 PC's in my control panel and read them, then went to the story and they were not there yet.
Yes, things sometimes get posted to one place or the other (Updated) only once a day, at different times.

Still waiting for my story to get posted! I really hope it's worth the wait.:(

Well, I'm now up to 23 pending some for a LONG time.

Couldn't they recrujit more moderators?

Also, Could some one expalin how to delet a story that is duplicated, the rejected one?

Obviously, yes. As it's been suggested frequently, and some have offered their services, without being taken up, we can presume they are happy to do it themselves, and if it means us waiting, wondering, re- submitting in hope, etc., that's our problem. It's their site, we just use it/support it. If we get lucky we're pleased, if not, it's our tough shit:D

One thing that may cut down any backlog is to limit submissions to a maximum of two per person. Until those are approved, no further submissions by that person allowed. Having 20+ waiting must be frustrating. (Having one or two for two weeks or more at a time is bad enough.)

Just as a matter of interest - Does anybody know if submissions are looked at and approved/rejected in order of submission date, irrespective of author? Or does other criteria decide?

I have noticed that poems are posted much faster than stories. This is, I believe, because they are much shorter; there are fewer of them and certain members of the Poet's Group read and evaluate them. However, poems with audio or illustrations take longer.

Illustrated or audio stories also take longer. My stories typically take about a week to post.

I don't like the idea of only allowing any author to have two unposted stories at a time. I am pretty prolific and some others are even moreso. Telling me or them that we can't submit any more stories because of the slowness of management doesn't seem right.

Now this could open a can of worms. :D

I can see PP, yelling , "Here, here". And I can see others thinking, "Greed bastards, just because they have more time, or don't take as much care as us, why should our 'one submissions' be held up because they post dozens!"

The matter COULD be resolved easily - by delegation.

Maybe I'm opening ANOTHER can of worms by suggesting that it COULD be that whilst they have so many submissions (particularly from 'prolific posters') why worry! They can like it or lump it. Plenty more to take their place if they piss off.

Not considering members (who are the lifeblood of any site), can re-bound. A few disillusioned, move on. Another site with a good forum board is found, word spreads, the dribble becomes a flood. The web is littered with once popular 'hasbeens'. Like popular Pubs, they are only popular whilst management are happy to make money, and consider their patrons as well. :D :D :D

It's all up to the webmaster, what they want, what's important to them, how much or how little what members want is important. They make the investment in time and money. They call the shots.

If you were submitting for publication by an editor you are more likely to be waiting six months than a couple of weeks :D - and most likely get a reject slip anyway.

Should I submit again?

Just curious.. I submitted my (first) story on Friday night, it's Monday night now.. I don't know if anyone looks at stuff over the weekend, so that might have something to do with it. I haven't had any views yet. Should I assume it's because it's been the weekend and give it a few more days, or should I hit that submit button again?

They rejected it!

Apparently there was some problem reading the .doc file.. I have no idea why. So I resubmitted it through the form, hopefully they'll add the italics where I asked for them.

Oh well! Hopefully it'll come through faster this way too!

Thanks for your help
