New Story Category

Perhaps, the Loving Wives category would cover this. Otherwise, we would like to see this category, too.

short description of a sample story for this category?

Good Idea.

When I have posted non-vanilla stories to the "Loving Wifes" section (which I thought was an ironic title) I got basted for the immoral acts my characters performed generally coupled witht he suggestiong that the author's morals were probably even worse! <g>

Good Idea.

And how about a bizarre/totally weird category. For those stories that really don't fit any of the other categories.

Like in the horror section, there are a few really bizarre stories that would be more suited to a category like that. They're not horror, just really strange LOL

Bill, I don't mean to be dismissive, but this site does have a key word search. If I remember correctly, a contributor called MistyMorgan has a wide selection of such stories. I'm sure there's many more.

How about a category for D/s relationships aside from the BDSM category?

How far would you go though? I agree as I have posted several vampire stories in the "horror section" when I forgot to select the section or perhaps when one of my stories was accepted it ended up in "nonhuman". I don't know which would be the best section to choose now.

The possibilities are breaking sections down further I suppose but would that be for the best, I'm not sure!

And then we have the "novella" and "letters and transcripts" categories, which lead to odd comparisons because the rest are based on content and those are based on length or format. Yes. It is a puzzlement.

The only sensible system around is the multiple categories some other sites use (eg, MF inc fat dau span preg). The major difficulty in introducing such a system would be coding the 65k+ stories already up on Lit.

I also think it would be a good idea to create sub-categories. Non-human would be moved into Sci-Fi, and there would be seperate categories for Vampires, Werewolves, magic, futuristic stories, etc.

But I must also agree with Snooper: it would be difficult (and take a long time) to re-categorize the stories, plus, some authors don't really visit the site much, so it would be a lot harder to get them to re-categorize their stories.

If there were sub-categories, I know that I would definitely be re-categorizing mine. :D

As to a "Cuckolds" category, I agree that the idea belongs in "Loving Wives" (which should perhaps be retitled as "Marital Relations" or something), as a sub-category.

categories

Just read the thread and I'm a bit puzzled. When you visit a bookstore you get sort of vague guidance as to categories. General fiction is a pretty all-encompassing area! You browse to find what you like.

Personally, I'd hate the m/ff, m/F type of stuff. It's so kind of anal.

Perhaps it would be better to take a different slant on the categories available. From what I've read, 'loving wives' is a mish-mash of romance. interracial, cuckolding and BDSM. All fine in their way but perhaps the author could have helped their audience by using another classification.

For example, Old Fogey (see 'My Response' - Reviews and Essays) complains but his (good) stories might be better received in 'Erotic Couplings'.

Think long and hard about your target audience before choosing a category. Push the envelope.
