Can I call you the Hexen?

Well since I don't know what that is, I am not sure I would want you to call me that. You are of course free to call me anything you want - people call me all kinds of things, some good some bad - I have no way of stopping them.

A little history on my new (actually not so new) ID: I thought of this name years ago because it describes me.

Why does that describe me?

1) I am a fundamentalist Christian (a Christian who believes in the fundamentals of Christianity) who:

a) Thinks evolution theory best describes the history of all of earth's animal species - including homo sapiens. Right there I would be called a heretic by most other people who call themselves fundamentalist Christians.

b) I do not believe that agnostics, atheists, homosexuals, bisexuals, etc. are amoral or immoral. I believe they have the same rights as any other human being and that the government or society has no business or right to say what a marriage is or isn't, beyond a civil bond between 2 or more people.

2) I am a Libertarian. That right there makes me a heretic with most other people who are either progressive socialists (i.e. Liberals), moderates (people who can't make up their mind what they want), or Conservatives (people who have their minds made up for them, and who couldn't change them if their lives depended on it).

I even dissent from some of the Libertarian party platform (such as their stance on many ecological issues).

I could have called myself something like The Dissenter, but The Heretic sounds better and is more descriptive. In past history heretics have often spoken the truth and been burned at the stake for it. That doesn't happen literally all that often anymore, at least not in the free world, but it happens all to often figuratively, and it has happened to me numerous times, including right here at Lit.

that was a joke - Hexen was a game, along with Heretic by iD right when Doom came out, same style, but from a midevil standpoint. Hexen/Heretic were mentioned in the same breath almost always. They were decect games.

Oh. I don't play games very much. Solitaire, Go, Pinball, that's about it. I don't even care for writing code for games - to me they are mostly boring. Simulators, such as flight simulators are okay, but get boring fast.

Those are not almost free - those are par for the course. Web Hosting Talk is a good place to go to get the skinny on different paid hosts, but you need to search through the forums to see what different people think of the hosts. They mostly do not cover the low end ($10 or less a year). There are free hosts out there, but very few offer what I want - advanced low-level access to server features such as access to the .htaccess file. Most just have some canned solution for neophytes. I want to be able serve up compressed HTML files (GZIP'ed) and to do that I need to be able to set their content type in the .htaccess file, which most free host do not allow.

I just updated my www link. Had my old website linked.
Web 1000 has no banners or ads.

Those are better than banners in my opinion. Atleast you can close pop ups. LOL

I am not sure how some of them do it. Liquid2K seems to do it without any ads on your pages, but they do have ads on their pages, and they do have ads in their control panel for managing the website.

The problem is that they are slow and very unreliable. I had them go down for days at a stretch.

I am looking at JLX Linux labs. At this point I have signed up to be a member (free), but I haven't got my password yet. It seems like a very low traffic and new website as there are a number of sections, such as their forums, that are not up and running yet. Their stats say I was the only one viewing their pages.

But like I said, I need certain features most free or even low cost sites don't usually give you. It isn't that the feature is anything costly, it is just that most people who put up personal websites don't know what an .htaccess file is much less want to use it. But I do.
