Hey Priscilla_June and welcome to Literotica. There's some great advice on the story side of Lit and there's some good advice in Author's section of the forum. Explore the whole site, then write and submit. Remember to take everything on the forum with a bit of salt, sit back and have fun.Just joined Literotica the other day, looking for an outlet for my writing, trying to catch up on all the how toos and FAQs I can, any tips for a person starting out here? Very good advice, honestly glad that seems to be the only thing I need to worry about! HeheWelcome! The best advice I can give you is to just write. It’s like learning to walk; falling down is part of the process.

Welcome
Literotica has a vast readership with varied tastes. Best thing to do is write your story your way and the readers who enjoy that material will gravitate to you. Ignore the trolls, especially the anonymous ones, and just do your thing and it will all work out
Welcome, Priscilla June
You’ll meet some very talented writers here at The Authors’ Hangout. You will also meet some opinionated idiots. Be careful to whom you listen.
The most useful piece of advice I can ever remember being given came from my first editor, almost 60 years ago. ‘No one can teach you to write,’ he said. ‘You have to teach yourself. But you can make it easier by paying close attention to how you read and how you think. After that, it’s just a matter of writing, writing, and writing some more.’
Good luck.
Welcome to chaos.
The stickies at the top are well worth reading.
Welcome PJ.
Rule One, most of us get known by initials or a nickname (even though we all have made up cyber names anyway), except Simon.
Rule Two... no, it doesn't exist, there are no rules - it all gets made up as we go along. There's lots of good guidance, though, and personalities to go with it.
Welcome.
Read the pinned posts. Read other posts as well.
Ask "stupid" questions. I know I did
Everyone here is pretty nice. We'll help as we can.
There is no right or wrong way to do this. Write what gives you satisfaction, in the way that feels best to you. If you want to write popular stories, read some of the most read, and learn how they do it. If you want to write off beat or niche stories that make you happy, but don't draw a big audience, do that. Find what gives you enjoyment and do it.
Yes i always have to check myself with trying to please others
Thats so true, often when ERPing I would have such a good idea for how I wanted the story to go but I couldn’t quite get my partners side of things there hehe.I'm still a newbie myself. Only been at it several months now.
The reason I started writing (besides boredom) was simple: no one else was writing MY fantasies. Or at least not the way I wanted them told.
So I decided to write them myself.
Don't worry about pleasing others. Please yourself, and it will show in your writing. And those who read it will appreciate it.
Thanks for the tips! Will for sure do that!Welcome and good luck.
A few quick tips:
Go to the Author's forum and look at the threads at the top that are highlighted in blue. Take some time to look them over and in particular to familiarize yourself with the content rules and the how-tos.
Read this article about how categories work at Literotica:https://literotica.com/s/love-your-readers-categories. This is the best guide I have read on deciding in which category to post your story.
Finally, just write. The best way to learn how to write is just to do it.
If you want feedback, then ask for it in the Feedback forum.
Have a great time!
HelloHow long does it usually take for works to get approved? I know Ive seen there is not many site staff, so I was just curious
Oh wow ok so its quite a bit then. Im nervous after reading that whole categories thread that I went back and changed my category from sci fi/fantasy to Non-consent. Which in some vein makes me sad because id rather contribute to sci fi/fantasy regardless of the actual content of the story.Hello
Approval can take a moment or two when you are new to the site. But, once you get a bit of a track record, two, three, four days seems to be about normal. Go and make yourself another cup of coffee. And good luck.
Welcome, Priscilla_June- I'm looking forward to reading your first story. If it follows most or all of Lit's rules, it should only take a few days to get approved, a week tops in some cases. Unless it was overly long. If it comes back rejected for something like underage, don't come on the forum to argue some technicality that in your state or country, marriage at 14 is okay. Just make the changes needed and resubmit. Although that seems to be more of a male thing.I'm still a newbie myself. Only been at it several months now.

oh yeah dont worry ill be staying away from that first bit… i think I read in TK Tall Tale’s guide to put a disclaimer in authors notes as well so I did that. We’ll see for the rest of the check boxes if I hit them.Welcome, Priscilla_June- I'm looking forward to reading your first story. Have to agree with Djmac1031- Write to please yourself and others will most likely appreciate it too. The great thing about Lit.com is everything you read on here, is usually some storyline or angle, I've never heard before. Make your stories unique, and don't try to fit a pattern that others have used. "Be true to yourself." That quote seems to work here too.
G'day and congratulations on your first submission. When it's approved, add a link to your signature and let us know it's up.Oh wow ok so its quite a bit then. Edit: Maybe I just read that wrong and since I’m in an exempt category that it doesnt matter if I have a trump in it as long as I tag…. Hmmm well I am going to live and learn it seems hehe

Categories aren't always clear. Many stories cross categories, and you have to think hard about what is the central theme. If you strongly believe it should be in Scifi, put a message in the "Notes to admin" field stating why you want it in a particular category. One reason would be it's the start of a Scifi series that will cross many categories. It's best to have all chapters in the same category.
Anyway, good luck and have fun!
SciFi is not specific to any particular kink. SciFi readers handle a wide range of sexual activity, and even no sex if that's what the story calls for.Yes, I think for this one if they pulled it out of sci fi I would not be offended, its just a one-off. But to your point I do plan to do chaptered works that would be just in the scifi/fantasy and then lots of other themes so I will have to make that distinction in the notes. Thanks for that tip.
Good to know then! I love scifi/fantasy and love having multiple kinks in them so this is perfect if so.SciFi is not specific to any particular kink. SciFi readers handle a wide range of sexual activity, and even no sex if that's what the story calls for.
If you submitted your story to SciFi, then I'd be very surprised if Laurel moved it anywhere else. I suppose it might happen if the story included incest or gay male, but the SciFi category should handle most flavors of sex, including NonCon.
