nerdy chicks

Roman,

i heard the other day that economists were put on this planet to make astrologists look good. I couldn't begin to tell you how much fun my friends are having producing senior theses thats stated solution to every social ill it to basically stand back and watch the market do its magic. The funny part is the 19 appendices and artwork that accompany it. it's a hoot.

Then there's all the other economist jokes--"If you took all the economists in the world and laid them down head-to-toe, they'd never reach a conclusion."

:D

I've gotta say, va_angel, that sunglasses convey a completely different image and connotation than your typical horn-rimmed or square, Buddy Holly-style glasses! Sunglasses are equated with 'cool,' not usually 'nerdy' or intellectual...

Which brings up the question posed I think by Douglas Adams--why is it cool not to show your eyes? Like how guys try to look cool by drooping their eyelids--is it even cooler to just go to sleep?

Roman

as for sunglasses, there are different shapes, colors, tints, ect. my comment on them was w/ the variety of sunglasses, many do look like reg glasses...frame wise that is. So why is 1 type of glasses cool and the other "nerdy"?

OK, you have got to STOP making casual posts like this, or someone here's gonna have a heart attack!;)

Roman

but, Roman, oh what a smile they would have on their faces. :D

Well, not all eyeglasses are equal, and not all sunglasses even are equal--Raybans supposedly look 'cooler' than your everyday prescription sunglasses.

Style is bundled with look which is bundled with stereotypes and culture...compare two leather jackets, one a classic bomber and the other black with metal studs--why is one considered cool, and the other more appropriate for a gay bar?:D

I believe that part of the attractiveness of nerdiness is that it is a counter-culture phenomenon...nerds aren't SUPPOSED to be sexy, but we all know that nerds can be sexy, which makes them even sexier...damn, that's confusing!

umm...... see..when you talk of the black w/ metal studs, I instantly pictured a biker jacket..... not a gay bar (but, then again, we don't have many gay bars here....if any)

Wow, just found this one, and decided to unveil my geekiness to everyone.
I too wear glasses (and have NO idea if it's sexy or not - I simply am too lazy to continually put in my contacts), read way too much sci-fi, fantasy, and various gaming stuff, and love my computer in a way that I'm sure is proscribed by several religions.

Hm. Oh, right. I am a HUGE Tolkien fan. More nerdy stuff as I think of it.

(I'm also jealous that Mysticcal got taken out for a drink. ::pout::)

Ah-ha! Big video game fan. RPGs only, though. Action games with no plot need not apply.

So what are we talking about...Zork? Ultima? or am I dating myself by bringing those up....:D

Oh, Roman, I don't know how to respond to that nicely.

But, um, yes, in that vein, broadly. Perhaps Ultima's great great great great grandchildren.

Here's where I pull out my "back when I was a kid" speech--I remember going to a friend's house so that we could dial into the mainframe at UC Berkeley (his dad was a physics prof) at 300 baud and play Adventure...you kids have it so easy today;)

Anyhow, RPGs rock--I don't consider that to be a strictly nerdy activity! But maybe that's just me...

Some people...honestly...

Black leather, studs optional, is ALWAYS cooler than a bomber jacket.

No! No, don't argue.

It just IS.

It's one of the Universal Laws.
A black leather jacket = cool.
Bomber in brown = sad pilot wannabe.

new glasses

After years of resisting it, I got black framed glasses (we all know the type) the other day. Yesterday I decided to go the all-nerd, all the time route and wore my hair in two braids with the new glasses. I've gotten nothing but compliments.

Go nerdettes!

Bomber in brown = Fonzie wannabe...now, THAT is sad!
Hehehee!

Anway, just to leap in on this thread - who dictates that just because some of us are into techie stuff or are in love with our PS2s (and have a zillion other consoles too plus emulators for all those NES games one cannot get anymore!)?

Oh yeah I know - it'd be those 15 year olds like my daughter that are embarrassed that WE show them up!
Heehe!
Nerdiness/geekiness...all vicious rumours put about by the *yoof* of today!
LOL!

Hi Bash. ;) And as I was wearing a white Tshirt with my sorority's letters on it, that's not quite possible. :)

Love it...I think that those Buddy Holly/Elvis Costello style glasses on women are HOT...but then, I've advertised my 'chicks with glasses' fetish on this thread on many occasions!
