DC tried in one movie to do what Marvel did in eight...that's a big reason why BvS was such a clusterfuck. As for Snyder...is the man allergic to daylight? Seriously, I think darkness is a character in all of his movies. GO OUTSIDE ALREADY!

I loved the humour in the JL trailer, something seriously bereft in the DCU films to date...made me eager for the film. Well, that and knowing that Kirby creations are going to be featured prominently. I'm a HUGE Kirby fan...for my money, the single most important creator in comic history.

I think it's OK for DCEU to be dark. Most of the main DC characters are messed up and would go off the rails if not for their 'extended family'. It's rather typical for much of DC over the last 2-3 generations and they give those who like it slightly less dark enough titles to spend their money on too. Batgirl and Nightwing are absolutely beloved because of exactly that, so were the Birds of prey.

Besides... Suicide Squad is DC's answer to Guardians. And then in typical DC/Warner Bros. attitude they thought it would be enough. Because Bats & Supes.

And now suddenly all the expectations of the DCEU are on what was supposed to be a side arc. Luckily for DC they are experienced in bringing side arcs in the main continuum LOL.

Marvel had a 19 movies plan. DC has/had Snyder. 😫😭😭😭🔫

Who'd ever thunk that the real start to the MCU would be Dr. Strange. That's awesome smarts, everybody thought it were the Guardians. Nope, we haven't started yet.

With the highest possible degree of respect for the genius that he is, Kirby's style was too extravagant for DC. He didn't have the supporting cast of artists and writers MARVEL could offer him. And he just wasn't dark enough for DC.

Agree with some of this - it is ok for DCEU to be dark, but only for the characters that it is appropriate for. The Flash is a comic relief character, for example. I think one of things that has made Marvel successful is that they are not afraid to take risks with what they choose to make, and they balance the all the fun of comic books with the tragedies that happen as well. They also separate the tones of their properties in a way that matches the comic books - Ant Man being more comedy based, the Defenders being dark as hell, the Avengers being a kick ass hero team, and Guardians as an extremely fun and dysfunctional team. Big Hero 6 is another minor property that Disney took onboard and made a brilliant movie about.

I am glad that DC seem to finally stopping this trend with Suicide Squad, and also embracing a more positive tone with future movies, if the WW and JL trailers are anything to judge by.
 
DC is ok but Marvel has always been so much better. The X-Men alone is far more interesting than the Justice League. In DC their heroes are Vanilla 50's style good guys. Love Batman but my boy Punisher will kill him.

Frank Castle is awesome. Definitely one of my preferred MARVEL characters.

I seem to have a weak for freelance assassins, Cole Cash is IMHO not given enough pages by the big honchos who decide. Wouldn't mind Grant Morrison doing a Grifter run.

DC fanboys will shoot me but I never was too big a fan of JL. I tend to laugh at MARVEL's overlords for their excellent Dept. of Milking It but JL has long gotten that tag from me too.

To tell you the truth I like Teen Titans more than Justice League. I really like Slade as a villian and the different complex personalities and powers make them great.

For me depends on the series. 2nd run at TT was dire imo! Having said that I loved the first series of JL which had had Kevin Conroy in it!
 
Spent today sleeping and reading HP and the Cursed Child. Happy to say I've finished it, although sad it's done. It was another very good story. JK Rowling really needs to keep writing. She's opened up the possibilities for a whole new generation with this story AND not to mention the possibilities of a Marauder's era series. I would LOVE that. Just sayin'...
 
Reviews are starting to come out on Suicide Squad and they are not very positive. Oh dear...
 
Bring on Doctor Strange already.

The 'MARVEL meets New meets Nolan' trailers have set the bar very high and propelled expectations way beyond Anything Kevin Feige had achieved so far in creating hype.


I'm still worried about Cumberbatch. I expect a certain 'swagger' from stranger and I just haven't found that in his previous acting yet. Don't get me wrong he's a brilliant actor, just not who would have come to mind for Strange.


As for Suicide Squad... surely any review of anything DCEU suffers the mess Snyder has created, not helped by the DC honchos.i have no expectations, I just want two hours of fun, rather mindless fun to be honest.


Will Smith and Jared Letho... the king of one liners and the queen of drama. What could we possibly have for expectations with such casting? And a near perfect first trailer. There's just too much in that first trailer for it not to be the best two minutes of the whole experience. ;)
 
I am so glad to see talk of comics and comics-based movies. But I have kind of purposely stayed away from the DCEU, and trailers, for many of the reasons stated above.

I am a huge Marvel fan, from reading Spider-man in the 70's, to getting into the X-Men in the 90's. When Marvel started doing movies, it was a huge gamble. Blade was a little movie, that did well. X-Men blew people out of the water. Spider-man was just so f***ing awesome. But there were no guarantees. FF was luke warm. X3 and Spider-man3 were....ok, but could have been so much better. And then came IM; a huge risk, even with an all star cast. But there was a plan. IM led to Incredible Hulk, which lead to Thor, which lead to IM 2, then Cap, and finally Avengers. Then came Phase 2, which saw IM3, Guardians, Cap: WS, Thor 2, Ant-man, Avengers 2, Cap:CW. And then the next wave:Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Cap. Marvel, Spider-man back at Marvel, Inhumans, GotG 2....the list goes on. Each piece building on the others, connecting, telling a story....

Then there's DC: the Dark Knight movies (1 & 2 great, 3 not so much), Man of Steel, the new "beginning", then BVS, Suicide Squad, JL, WW, etc. 3 TV shows that are excellent from what I hear, but have nothing to do with the DCEU. I think DC is trying to run, when they need to learn to walk....sometimes you can't skip steps on the learning curve.

I hope all these movies do well, but for now, Make Mine Marvel :D
