Nerds and Geeks rollcall!

Does anybody know when they're going to release a Tekken game that can go "online" with the PS2? I think it would be so cool to go on and play aginst all you other litsters, and "the asian crew" that everybody keeps talking about. As I said I'm pretty much un-beatiable in TTT in my area (espically on a console), and I would LOVE to see how I stack up aginst the rest of the world. My can you imagine the online tournaments? Damn I'm getting all hot and bothered just thinking about it (or it could be all of CG's mighty fine pics doing that to me, I'm not quite sure).

Either way I'm still totally stoked for Gran Turismo 4 being online. I'm thinking of picking up the online adapter just to play that game. It's going to be sweet.
While many people want Tekken Online I for one want them to wait awhile. If anyone here has played Virtua Fighter 2 (PC), Capcom VS SNK 2 EO (Xbox), or any of the various fighters that are currently online playable you would know how much they suck. A fighting game requires too much precise timing and any amount of latency kills the match. The industry is going to be watching Dead or Alive Ultimate next moth to see if a 3D fighter can do well in an online environment. It's been pretty onvious the 2D ones have been mediocre at best and the 3D versions have a harder battle.

I definitely would like to see how my TTT playing stacks up against yours, but the best way is to do like me and play in tournaments. That way you know how you stack up against the US and the world. :)

I doubt the next tekken will be online, local tournaments are always fun. As for playing against some of the Asian players they are very high class, same with the Korean players, with TTT at that level you only ever see Tier 1 matches with although very intense can be a little boring. I play tekken 4 more now, but when I do play TTT I need to be playing the full speed jap version, the timing is all wrong on the shoddy UK conversions so taking your skill to the arcade is difficult. Especially when at the tournaments that I played in at uni you had to play on a pad and with the damage at max rather than the default so everything’s off balance:(

Right I have a brief meeting for an hour or so, I will be forced to leave my office and venture into the light of the meeting room:(

Down with 50hz! It always sucks when they don't give you guys the 50/60 selectors. :(

Those tournaments I wouldn't even play in.

If your looking for a MMORPG take a look at Horizons, if I was to join back into MMORPG thats probubly where I would start playing.

SF will always hold a place in my heart behind CG and below Chrono Trigger ^_^

I'm already playing Horizons and it is absolute *ASS*! On my server I am within the Top 20 players with my Lvl 65 Paladin and we have zero content. I don't even have an equal leveled mob to fight for exp. I have to farm mobs 5-15 lvls under me for exp. Also, every week we get a new patch with a shitload of nerfs, they refuse to listen to us players, the lag is unbeleivably horrible, developers have to work specifically on 1 server just so they can do an event, and grouping is almost impossible if you have over 4 people due to the lag.

Just to give you a hint at how they are so nerf happy and that there is no content. Day one we had 35k copies of the game sold and people playing. Last week at peak we barely had 4k people playing *total*. The game had a lot of potential, but the dev team is killing it very quickly. :(

I would have to disagree slightly. I don't find those Tier 1 intense matches borring at all. For a spectator then yes, they can seem borring *player 1 throws a flurry, they get blocked, player 2 tries to counter, but those are blocked, lather, rince, repeat*. However for the people that actuially play the game, and are at a level above the "average and/or casual player" then those matches are exciting, because we know that just one mistake can cause you to loose the match, or get hurt, or anything like that. It's like most people find a good ju-jitsu match rather borring, because all they see are two guys looking like they're dry-humping each other with their gi's on. But for those of us "in the know" we look for different things, the positioning, leverage, loose body parts.

I think it all comes down to how much you can pick up from the match that determines how exciting it is. Just my $0.02 though, take it for what you will.

The amount of "Tier 1" US, UK, Japanese, and Korean Virtua Fighter and Tekken matches I watch would probably show my geekdom way too much. I do agree for a casual player watching them can be quite boring, but when you see some block then not go for a guaranteed damage follow-up or you see them land some obscure follow-up, then juggle for an insane tech combo it's exciting to us otaku. :D Watch matches in TTT by Seok Dong Min (Korean) or Virtua Fighter Matches by Chibita (Japanese) and if you know a touch about the game you'll be impressed. I know there are many other great players just for these respective games, but I don't wanna bore people too much.

Oy, Rep. After reading all of that stuff, I'm really starting to doubt whether I'm a geek or not. I sure wish there was another crazy band geek for me to play with, since I know little about computers, old RPGs, and all the other crazy stuff everyone's talking about. I'm like the token geek wannabe, or geek groupie. :(

Don't feel too bad. Most of my gaming is either D&D or on computer. I haven't done any console gaming. (Unless you count Atari 2600 LOL OK, I guess I just dated myself there. *dies of shame*)

No need to doubt. There are an infinite number of types of geekdom. You can comment on any kind of band stuff as well and I'll be able to relate. :) I was 1st chair all-county (Tuba), 1st chair all-state (Tuba), 1st chair honors band (Tuba), went to band camp for 3 years, governors school for music, performed in the Wilmington Jazz Festival 2 times, attended UNC-Greensboro, Appalachian State University, and NC School of the Arts for music. My main areas of focus were Tuba and Tribal Percussion. I've marched in the Disney World parades, played in various symphonic groups from Virginia to Florida and over to Atlanta, and our band even played Seaworld concerts a few times. :D

I don't play much anymore, but I can still run my scales and read music better than most in college. For the past years my musicianship has mostly been guitar, drums, or singing in various bands (punk/metal). Not trying to brag at all here, but letting you know that I have invested a lot of time into music in my life and still do. :)

Age doesn't matter. I don't care at all. Most of the people I've met on Lit are older and they're usually a lot more fun and they flirt better. :p

Thats not THAT old. I can remember the atari 2600 and I am but the tender age of twenty. Great system, the first console-hybrid I ever played.

31 is not old, Rep. You silly goose. :p If you added a zero to the end of that number, THEN I would agree with you that you were old. :D

If I'm alive at 310, then I won't be old. I'll be popular! :D

*rep lavishes kisses all over cg*
Oooh! Kisses! And where exactly would those kisses be?

We recruited a new tuba girl last Saturday, and she's really excited about coming to school next year, so that'll be fun to have another female tuba, since the guys usually clump together. I'm a happy gal. :)

The kisses are *ALL* over. :D

Cool to hear you're getting another tubagrrl. The girl that was in my section was never excluded from hanging with us guys. It was actually mandatory, since we were afraid she'd start liking some trumpet player. *shudders*

Oooh...all over...in all the wrong places!

The guys are nice to me, but I usually felt withdrawn from them. They weren't as band geeky as I was, but I think they respected me, even if they didn't hang out with me all the time. I did connect with one of the guys, though, who also felt a bit reserved. He was a nice guy. I think he wants to play drums next year, though. I guess that's fine and all, because it seems like drums are his passion. He just happens to play tuba as well.

Don't feel bad. I know nothing of band either, as well I can't carry a note and/or a tune in a suitcase, and trying to read music sheets is the same as me trying to read ancient arabic.

How bout we leave those two to their "this one time at band camp" stories, fire up some UT and laugh at eachothers suckage and have a good ole time.

Reading sheet music does look challenging, but once you get the basics down, it gets easier. It's a beautiful language to speak. :p

And can I laugh at your suckage too? Wait...what type of suckage are we talking about???

The suckage I was referring to would be me and Zerg both being really horrible at FPS games, so we would go running around looking for each other and not being able to hit anything once we find ourselves. However I think I can come up with a few different "suckage" topics I can practice on you if you want. You know, just so you don't feel all left out. Oh and I can guarentee you woulden't be laughing then ;)

If this is wrong. I don't wanna be right. :p

It's good to hear they can respect your musicianship even if you don't hold many similar interests. The tuba section I was in basically was a mini gang. We did everything together and were always trying to push each other farther in music or whatever we were doing. :) I can definitely sympathize with having a love for many instruments.
