Maybe, or maybe it's nice to have diversity for conversations :) if everyone was just a vvideo game nerd, it'd get kinda boring :)
 
It seems common to conflate a love for video games or for anime or fandom or a bunch of other things with nerdery but I feel like it's really a spectrum. I'm pretty nerdy in the sense of having really strong interests in a number of areas technical and otherwise, but none of those happen to be anime, videogames, etc. Yay diversity!

This. ^ I write Linux kernel modules for a living but really that's just being nerdy about one specific thing, isn't it? I also nerd out over fish tanks and aquaria. :) I think nerds are no longer the minority since almost everyone likes computers (hi internet) or video games or whatever.
 
I LOVE Big Bang Theory. Haha. Not only did I used to play Starcraft and League of Legends, I also watched the professional players of these games stream online on a daily basis and rooted for my favorite players to move up to the pro championships. Hmm, and I'm a Biology major, I own a pair of reading glasses, I graduated at the top of my class in high school, I have those days where I am on my computer more than I am out in society, I'm a fan of Dragon Ball Z, I used to watch Pokemon, and I didn't have my first kiss until college. Yeah, it's sad how nerdy I actually am. :p
