You're preaching to the choir. Not that I didn't thoroughly enjoy Peter Jackson's adaptation of LOTR, but the book was so much better. And don't even get me started on Harry Potter.

I loved LOTR and will def see The Hobbit...my only problem was that the Scouring of the Shire chapter was left out

LOTR is the one time I've like a movie better than the books. Tolkien's writing was just so dry I never found myself enjoying what I was reading it was like slogging through mud. Movies is just sit down, have some popcorn kill off a day and cut out the parts of the book I don't like.

I have the books on audio CD made by the bbc from when I was a kid and they are awesome.

Really brought the story alive for the 10 year old me. The black riders section in FOTR was really spooky .

I have to agree with this as well - I tried to read LOTR and it took me 3 months to get through the first book because the writing was so slow.

I think it translates much better on film.
