I was reading up... is there a difference between geek and nerd? English isn't my first language do help me clear this up.

I like dungeons and dragons (and the d10 system), used to read comics and now read manga; enjoy sci fi and fantasy books... I also like movies, I like videogames too. I have a flawless spanish (first language) and -I want to believe- a halfway decent english and a mediocre japanese.

That makes me a..?

They're interchangeable really, there might be some people who feel there's a hardcore line. But I see them as being both.

Yeah, fairly interchangable.

Sometimes a nerd would be the super smart version and the geek just has the nerdy habits, but is a pretty average brain.

Or I just made that up. :D

Eh, I don't really think they're that interchangeable. 'Nerd' partly refers to lack of social skills, and insofar as it refers to one's interests, it tends to be one having an extreme interest in technical/academic areas. It also maintains a fairly negative connotation. 'Geek' typically just refers to having an extreme interest in something that's not particularly mainstream, but still something that qualifies more as entertainment/leisure than academia. It's also been fairly heavily adopted to mitigate how much of a negative connotation it has.

Just to follow up on KMD
What I've learnt is that a nerd is like socially awkward and a geek is somewhat normally functioning. And usually it's refered to as a science nerd but a computer geek.
Or, the other Big Bang Theory version: Sheldon is a nerd, Leonard is a geek.

But I'm still not really sure, as English isn't my first language either - in Danish we only have one term, "nørd", so my go to is often "nerd" which seems to insult some geeks.

I see... So it is slightly like in spanish, I thought no distinctions could be made. There are subtle differences in spanish; because in mexican spanish, nerd sometimes is used to identify the "brain" within a social group. Geek is seldom used, and it's more referred towards people with sci-fi or fantasy inclinations in entertainment. Friki (derived from freaky) is for socially awkward and non-mainstream tastes, but bit necessarily smart.

What's wrong with letters with strange accents? Like, say, the very well known mexican word "piñata"? N with an accent rocks! :p

...I've never played Diablo.

please be gentle

I played brave soul instead...
