If you have Ubuntu/debian-based linux, you can get a free port of Settlers of Catan called "Pioneers". You can play friends/other people online/across the network, or you can just play the AI (which is overall not that bad, though it can't initiate domestic trade, and sometimes does some very stupid things). There's also a windows version, but you can only join a game being hosted by somebody on a linux machine.
Cool! I'll definitely look into that. Are their public hosts where you can just join any old game, or do you have to know a group of people and coordinate a time to play?

I looooove that game :D:D:D:D:D:nana:
If you want to get really geeky, then there's even a space version of it (Starfarers of Catan)
My friend has some expansion set to it, I think it is sea based or something. I'd like to get into that once I get the main gameplay down better.

Haven't looked into those features, to be honest. I usually just play the AI when I get bored, every so often.

The normal is sea-based and there are multiple expansion editions. The space version doesn't have as many expansions (if any at all?) and is not as well known, but it's fun to go exploring in space :D

Seafarers. Instead of everything being on one island, you have multiple islands, and you place boats on the ocean like roads to connect them. According to the guy working at the board game store that I talked to yesterday, it requires more cooperative trading early on, since the resources are harder to get to.

Yeah, well, I don't remember ever playing it without the Seafarers expansion so can't tell the difference ;)

I suck at the trading part. I never remember what resources buy what and I don't always know what is the best thing to go for. That all comes with experience I suppose.

The game comes with a few cardboard cards that have a legend of what resources buy what that you can always keep handy. As for where to place...lots of different ways you can about that.

Oh don't get me started, I'm REALLY horny right now and looking at mal's luscious tits every time i read through this thread is driving me wild lol

Your head would explode if you were around when Mal and I used to hijack the thread regularly with our play sessions
