And nothing is helping online. So when all else fails, ask Lit

My daughter has Mono. And the Dr didnt say whether or not she could go to daycare still or not. Send her???

Depends...

on the regulations for your state...which state are you in?

In general...

in order to return to the child care setting the child must no longer be contagious and be symptom-free for a minimum of 24 hours. The duration of exclusion times will vary from state to state. Call your local child care licensing body and they can tell you if your child has to be excluded and for how long. Of course, your child care center may have additional regulations regarding exclusion that are more stringent than the minimum regulations enforced by your state. Your child care center director can give you the phone number for the licensing body for your state if you can't find it yourself, but typically they are within the Health and Human Services division.

How about picking up the phone and asking the Dr? Or his nurses? But if not, nope. No return till a clean bill of health.
Sorry about the little one. Can be rough when they get sick, and just at the start of summer!!! Way not fair!

I had that the summer I turned 19. Ever try to get a consistent 102 degree fever down in 100 degree heat with no A.C? Not fun. I'm with Merelan on this one...call the doc or a hospital, or if you have insurance and they have a help line, give them a call. Otherwise better safe than sorry and don't send her.

The summer before my senior year in high school I had a rather severe case of Mono which kept me in bed for almost 3 weeks, and I couldn't go back to work for a month. Before I got Mono, I RARELY got sick, and since then I catch every little bug possible which sucks.

This previous winter I was in bed with it yet again, not to mention the walking pneumonia I became afflicted with right after I started recovering from the Mono.

It was not pleasant.

mm
Well the doctors don't know when MONO stops being contagious I think the common concensus is after the throat has finished its nasty look. Just warn the Day Care atendants.

I was waiting on a call back when I posted.

She can still go to school, according to them, but I still have to talk with the daycare.

Poor kid!

i had mono some twelve years ago. i thought i was going to die!

missed a week of work. never had i felt so tired in my life. i lived on the couch because it was to much hassle to drag my ass to the bedroom. i lost five pounds because i was to wore out to fix anything to eat most of the time.

and then i discovered chronic fatigue syndrome and missed three weeks of work over the next two years.

So take care of that kid! and talk to your doctor.

dont send her to school. Mono is cantagious, last i heard.......just wait it out until she gets better.........and give her plenty of chicken noodle soup!.......

Mono ROYALLY sucks. I hated every minute of it, and it weakened my immune system terribly.

I can honestly say I never missed a day of work or school until the Mono episode, and now I catch anything anyone brings near me. Every cold, flu, bug - anything. And I always get it much worse than whoever gave it to me.

I'd say no.... just to be on the safe side. She'll be contagious until she stops running a fever, and that might take a while. Mono is passed through saliva... and think of all the toys and such that kids put in their mouth. It's also an opportunistic virus, so it will stay in her system for a while, and if she gets run down, she'll have a relapse. Chances are that all the other kids have already been exposed to it. SOmetimes it never manifests.

You don't want to send her anywhere until she isn't running a fever atleast if she is running one and then you probably want to wait a couple days. Mono is very contagious I almost caught it agian when my sister came down it just from helping to get her stuff.
