Need help - where and what's the name of

that tropical hotel where the rooms are isolated luxury "huts" on the water. I think the rooms are accessed by long piers, maybe some by boat.

I looked around but can't find it.

It's in the Indian Ocean. I have a friend who was working there just before the tsunami hit and they had to start all over again. Last I heard she was in Dubai but has moved again from there. Not quite sure where Sands is now.

Anyway, to answer your question, one place is Paradise Island in the Maldives.

From what you say, try 'Cayman Islands'. Same thing exists in Goa but try googling cayman islands first.

Yeah, Little Cayman Beach Resort is like that. But most of the hotels and resorts in the Caymans are closed due to hurricane damage.

Thank you, but no. The rooms were surprisingly far apart is my memory. They had a cottage feel, thatched roof maybe, some of the floor was clear so you could see the water below.

It's driving me nuts so now, instead of just making it up for my story I have to dig this place up.

I've thought of Fiji as well. Seems like I want to think Bali, though. I've also looked at all the major hotel chains.

Anyway, you could be right about the camera angles, but I recall aerial shots and each room was it's own isolated island. Memory could be wonky, I suppose.

Hmmm . . . hard to imagine how they'd be serviced. Is labor so cheap that they have a boat come along and pump out the waste tank every day? One of the reasons for building them along causeways is that you can run the sewer pipes and water lines along the underside. There's a community resembling the idea on the north peninsula of San Francisco Bay called the Greenbrae Boardwalk and if you lean down and hang your head over the edge, you can see the plumbing. It's very cool. Those folks live out in a salt marsh with the birds and other critters.

There used to be and probably still are some homes and such on Biscayne Bay in Florida that sound similar to what you want. I remember seeing a picture of what you're looking for but I can't remember where.
