Simple question, please and thank you:

Do we have to reference "National Nude Day" in a story for the competition? I feel like some good stories are suddenly blown up by a gimmicky "Oh, and it's National Nude Day today!" as if someone were jumping out from behind the couch at a surprise birthday party.

Does anyone else feel some stories seemed forced to wedge that disclaimer in?

Can we be more subtle without an obvious National Nude Day throw-away line just to make the story eligible for competition?

No, that's not necessary. It's supposed to be about "nudity," usually in an exhibitionistic way.

You will have to put whatever Laurel lists in her post - when it comes - in the Notes box.

But as long as nudity is involved in the story you do not need anything else. It is US national Nude Day but that doesn't matter as long as nudity features.

The readers might down vote you if nudity is only incidental.

My contest entry last year had nothing at all to do with National Nude Day. It wasn't even in the summer. It included two admitted exhibitionists, whose occasional nudity was a sidelight in the story. It's now my most viewed, commented, and favorited story.

Your mileage may vary.

Back to the original question. I have two stories entered. One simply mentions the date without further elaboration. The other mentions the date up front and ends with the two characters finishing a nude hike at banner announcing it’s Nude Day, again no further elaboration. I think I could have left out all of that without compromise.

I don't think any of my Nude Day entries has ever mentioned Nude Day. If so, I'm sure it was mentioned ironically.

The original question was adequately answered two years ago.

My Nude Day entrant for last year made a thing from its being Bastille Day. I don't remember if I mention National Nude Day or not.
