We have discussed in the other thread the prospect of a near future National ID Card.

Some of the more than probable info discussed to be included have been:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Photo
  • Medical History
  • Financial History
  • etc.

All this will be on the card either by meands of a barcode {numbered society, like it isn't already}, scan strip, or a micro chip {much like the new credit cards}.

I see a few logical next steps.

I see not long after it happens the public being outraged at having to carry yet another piece of ID. So the next step would be to merge this National Id into one all inclusive card.

Thus it would become:

  • Drivers License
  • Social Security
  • Medical
  • PassPort
  • etc.

This could easily all be programmed into the barcode, scan strip, or micro chip. don't give me the its difficult crap cause it isn't.

Next shortly after this happened I could see people losing thier cards and complaining that they are to easy to lose or have stolen.

***RELIGION SPOILER***DON"T READ BEYONG IF RELIGION AIN"T YOUR THANG ***

I can soon see some brain child politician saying, "Well we can solve that, we can take that barcode, scan strip, or micro chip right into a person just under the flesh and no one can still it with out your knowing." And then they would say, "Where would we put this on the body?" then some equally brain chile would say. "Well we could just put it on the hand and then we wouldn't have to change the scanner set ups in any of the facilities that use it, we could even put it in the forehead it wouldn't be much to do for that. Our bank machines already use biometric scanners lets just add to the program to scan for that chip."

***I WARNED YOU, PLEASE IF RELIGION AIN'T YOUR THANG PLEASE DON"T READ WHAT IS NEXT.***

Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

ummm...if it is the mark of the beast ...it won't be the Goverments doing.

Todd...this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the original ID thread.

I will be persecuted and die a miserable death before I would ever have anything "implanted" in me.

umm...well hon, let's not be TOO hasty

"anything" covers a lot of ground, you know...(closing my eyes and fantasizing about the possibilities of "anything implanted in me")

Too late we all ready have one. The SSN card. Dont even think of claiming it is not used for ID. Just try to file your taxes with out it, or get a VISA or MC.

True. But you can live in the US without having a SSN. What scares many people about National ID Cards is that they would be mandatory. Police could, theoretically, stop you in the streets without probable cause and demand to see your ID card. The harassment scenarios are what scare me the most.

I think government should provide services that improve the country, things that are difficult if nor impossible to provide via private enterprise - roads, police, military, prisons, etc. I do NOT think the government should be unduly monitoring or harassing its citizens in the name of "security". I don't think the government should be telling me what's morally right or wrong. People get all scared by terrorists and want to hide behind Big Daddy Government, and politicians use this fear to push through all sorts of scary shit. I'm not as upset by politicians' power grabs as I am at the American people for supporting reactionary bullcrap like the Patriot act and National ID cards, etc.

ack...sorry todd...i didn't set out to hijack this into a sex thread...i swear!...it just happened...

i'll seek therapy...i promise

I would like to see a national ID card. A photo on the card, an ID number (it could be your SSN), an address, and a reference to a fingerprint card and DNA sample should all be on it.

It should be seperate from the state issued driver's license, and only used for ID purposes. The mere act of identifying a person does not limit their privacy. You are already required to identify yourself if asked by a police officer. This would simply make such identification easier.

Why do you assume that the police are the only ones who identify people? The last time I went to a casino, they took a picture of my drivers liscence at the entrance of the boat (Lake Charles, LA--Harrah's). I will never go back there again. There is no reason whatsoever for them to need to save this information. They had proof that I am an adult and that is all that is required to gamble.

And why would you ever be stupid enough to think that your SS number is the one you want everyone to see? That is the key to identity stealing here in the US. NO ONE should ever be given access to your SS number unless they pay you for a job. Period. I refused to have it in my chart at my Gyn's office and the clerk told me outright that without it, I would not get my exam at the hospital. Hhhmmm.... how does my tax information relate to me getting a mammogram? Oh yeah--because they are illegally requiring that information. It is legal for them to ask for it, but it is very illegal for them to require it. Unfortunately, so many people are ignorant of the uses of such information and get screw when they are irresponsible with it.

Hi, Laurel. We are both fine, and having a ball! It's great living with her.She is pretty busy on a new job, and I am still looking, but we are both pretty happy with the way things have turned out.
