Anyone know anything about this?
I got this thing in the mail that I'd been nominated for it, they want me to write up a little bio or whatever and return. Oh, and I can buy a book with all the names, including mine, for lots of money. So I thought, scam.
But just to be sure I googled, as well as checked my school website, and nearly every listing is someone's resume listing "National Dean's List" as an honor, even newspaper write ups for small towns listing local nominees. So I'm confuzzled, and thought I'd see what y'all know.

Thanks!

My question is: Who are these Deans and do I have to buy the book in order to on the list? If I have to buy the book to be listed then leave me off. If I can be listed without have to pay anything the fine.

Not a scam. It means you're kicking some serious ass in your schoolwork. But the book is usually a ripoff.

Zeb- supposedly you don't have to buy the book to be listed. And according to what I read, you have to be nominated by faculty and have a certain GPA, which I do. And the nomination is very possible in my department, tho I don't know that for certain.

It's a scheme to make money on the book sales. Who would buy such a thing unless they are in it? They're hoping a lot of proud mama's and papa's will fork over the cash to see their kid's name in it.

There's no harm in sending bio and being included, but, in the end, it won't make a hill of beans worth of difference if you are listed or not. If you are on your school's dean's list and have a high GPA, employers will appreciate that without you being on some 'national' list.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. But I really liked the idea of it.

Didn't finish college, so I wouldn't know. If others vouch for them, then good. Otherwise, I'd say that they were fucking crooks.

That's cool then. I think I'm in several trade books like that but I never bought them to see. When I used to get mail from places that sold these books I found I could put the 400 - 500 dollars to better use. :D

There's a whole industry out of this sort of thing. I can recall getting a similar notice from Who's Who of American High School Students - same deal.

I got the same thing, only it was Who's Who of American College Students.

I'm on it. It's not a scam. Looks good on a resume and makes you available for tons of scholarships. Go for it.
