How long are your massages?

My sessions are 1/2 hour, 1 hour, 11/2 hour and 2 hours. The most I have ever done in regular massages is 21/2 hour long and in a Thai massage 3 hours. I also sell packages of massages. Buy 5 sessions at one time and you can save $50.00.

So, can I count on you for study help when I get into my anatomy and physiology class? ;)

Thai Massage

An ancient art of massage that dates back some 2500 years, which works on the energy meridian system, promoting Chi flow throughout the body. Some call it a marriage between Indian yoga and Chinese acupressure. It is performed on a floor mat with the recipient comfortably clothed in loose clothing. The massage consists of rhythmic acupressure, gentle rocking and passively supported yoga-like stretches. While in the yoga-like positions, the therapist is applying deep pressure to energy points and channels with their hands, fingers, elbows, knees and feet. The passive stretching allows the recipient to relax into a deeper position. When completely relaxed into a stretch, the muscles are free to move into new positions and range of motion that would otherwise not be achievable. Each position prepares the body for the next, leading the recipient to increasing degrees of relaxation, release and stretching. Thai massage is suitable for the young or old, male or female, with effective long-lasting benefits.Thai Massage works on the muscles, ligaments, nerves, joints and bones. It affects the body as a whole unit. People with sport injuries often find they are more flexible after treatments than before they were injured. The stretching is effective because it is passive and it allows the receiver to relax and stretch deeper into the position.

“You can expect reduction in chronic pain and increase in range of motion in the first session.”

Goodie ~ does that mean you'll help me pass?
I know I can help youm study, answer any quesions you may have, give you places to look at if you need the, I can even give you a few test questions, but, in the end, you will have to take the test and pass it yourself. Course, by that time, you will know all the answers so that will be the easy part. :D

Thank you for the compliment and encouragement.

I bought Anatomy flash cards so I'm sure that will help.

Coolio! What fun! I will look for one. I have a brain coloring book from my psychology class and I loved doing that.

I take Biology in the fall and A&P starts in the spring. I have a friend in med school who told me to start reading things over now because it's so in depth it's good to have an idea of what awaits me.

Take you friends advice hun. There is a lot to go over. The more familiar you are with the muscles and bones, the better you will be. ;)

Maassage with Cancer

When I first started in massage in 1997, the golden rule was never massage anyone with cancer. Times have changed and the golden rule no longer holds true.

1. Research as much as you can about the type of cancer your patient has. Find out what is involved in their treatments. Talk with the patient. Talk with the patients doctors. Become informed.
2. If they are going through chemotherapy or radiation, research the drugs that are being used. Their bodies are going to be destroyed by the drugs. They may experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue, hair loss, skin changes, and an extreme fluctuation in emotions. Fear will be with them through out the process.
3. The best thing you can do for your client is be there and not interfere in their process or be judgmental. Stand back and look at what they are going through and decide how can you best support their process. If you step in and start suggesting alternative therapies they might be overwhelmed. If they want something different or more information they will ask. Just offer them the best massage session you can. Listen to them. Listen to their pain. Listen to their fear. Listening may be the best healer.
4. Be in constant contact with the client at all times. What may have previously felt fine to them, may not now. Ask them what they want - more pressure, less pressure or just a certain body part. They may not want some areas touched. Their skin may be more sensitive when going through chemotherapy or radiation.

Massage helps to reduce stress, boost the immune system, restore energy and increase blood, oxygen and lymphatic circulation—all of which promote easier, more rapid healing. You regain a sense of feeling human after massage.

Pay special attention to lymph drainage to coincide with post-surgical radiation treatments.
