Making a pledge means something to those folks down there, and that, among other things makes me proud to be an American.

What makes you proud of your nationality?

OK, I'll bite. I was stationed there in the late 60's. Don't remember faces, but the locals were nice and the cock-roaches weren't.

LoL. That's cool.

Recently they raised the money to buy NYC a firetruck because back in 18somethingorother NYC bought them a fire wagon when they heard that they were still using a bucket brigade down there.

A pledge was made that if NYC ever befell tragedy that they would aid them with the same generosity as the NYC fire dept. showed to them.

Time means nothing. It's the principle of our loyalty to help humankind that overrides all things for decent people.
