I wrote this to try to explain myself to some one and thought maybe I’d share it as an introduction. It’s not perfect but it tries to share something of myself:
Here goes:-
Me
Imagine you live in a world where nearly everyone likes football.
Some people like cricket but generally they’re looked on as a bit strange but they’re ok.
The football fans all have pretty similar likes and dislikes. The teams may vary but they have the same type of shirt and go to the same places.
But you don’t understand the rules of the games. You don’t like the places they go.
You don’t know what they’re talking about.
You live in a world that you can’t begin to fathom.
There are no people in your world who are the same. The people on the telly that seem like you are laughed at. Curiosities to be made fun off with their funny nuances.
There are derogatory words used to describe you but this is how you are. But you’re told you must like football or cricket. But you still don’t understand. Why don’t you like sports.
You do like baseball but that’s only played in America and only then by people in films.
So you grow confused.
There are no nice words to describe you.
You see no one like you in daily life.
You are confused. You start to take drugs. You start to drink. You can’t cope. You don’t fit in so you keep on drinking. Not much: just a bottle of wine a day but it gets you by.
Then you stop drinking and all the feelings you’d pushed away come back.
Then kids, way younger than you, start to talk about crochet and art and you realise you’re not alone. But by now you’re old and your time has passed.
But it’s mainly ok cos you realise you’re not quite as crazy as you thought and some of your confusion goes. So you go to some online site to chat and meet in the hope you’ll meet some people like you.
