my first naked, co-ed sauna experience

Nudism is a lot more acceptable in Europe than it is in the USA.

Lots of nude beaches or camp grounds as well as the aforementioned sauna / baths

Okay, so explain to us the “health benefits” of being naked.
This ought to be good for a laugh.

I understand why it sounds funny to think of there being health benefits to nudity. But I will say this: My husband and I enjoy the nude beach concept. We have noticed that the majority of people on a nude beach are in good shape. At least the beach we go to. When I go into public places I notice that a very high percentage of people are seriously over weight. I think that people that enjoy the freedom of being naked become more concerned about taking care of their body. It is easy to hide rolls of fat under clothing but if you know you are going to be naked on the beach there is an incentive to eat right and workout. So, it is an indirect health benefit.

I also think that American society and most of the worlds social orders have toxic ideas about human sexuality. Nudity is shamed and that is absurd. Humans are the only life form on the planet that has a feeling of shame about being naked. That can't be good for a persons health.

The people at the sauna here were mixed. But then again, that is how they are in the streets in Germany (in my city at least). A lot of walking and biking going on, so people are more fit. Once they get older and stop walking/biking, they put on more weight like in the USA.

Although I am not in training now, I am at a good fitness level. This helps with any shyness I might have had. But as I pointed out in the original post, no one is worried about what you look like. Only you are concerned with yourself.

I felt like I was seeing people for who they really were, without any facade to hide behind. They seemed open, honest, and sincere. It would not be out of place for work colleagues here to ask other colleagues, if they want to go to the sauna after work. (Imagine how well that question would go in the USA!) My sister-in-law was trying to get us to go a few times. Not because she had some 'thing' about seeing me, but because she wanted us to experience the saunas for ourselves.

Now, on a more general note. If I placed this thread in the wrong category, then please tell a moderator to move it. As you can see that I am a newbee, and pardon me if I posted in the wrong place.

It's not in the wrong place, but it's not in the best place. Mods don't move threads from the GB, but if you start a new one on The Playground you'll probably get more replies from like minded types.

Your first line seems legit, but you followed it up with a wise-crack. Therefore, I will be brief.

I am referencing to being in the sauna...
clothing inhibits sweat from evaporating properly, this also builds up extra heat. Clothing also traps non-hygenic micro-organisms quite well. Bacteria and fungi also love the area that worn fabric provides. Not something that you want to share amongst the other people in the sauna.
Now imagine taking your swimsuit or whatever you are wearing, and jumping into one of the pools. Yes, go ahead and rinse off your swimwear in the bathwater.

As a skeptic, perhaps take some time and read up on the health benefits of saunas. I am sure it can be explained much better than I could, if you are really interested.

Don’t take it the wrong way.

You were nice enough to explain your perspective, so I’ll explain my stand point. Nudity doesn’t factor in well with cross dressing, worlds apart.

To the OP: did you anticipate a sexualized/titillating experience going in? Just curious what your expectations were.

From the title you would think that it would be at home in the fetish area but the original poster interestingly correctly discovered that nudists really aren't necessarilly about kinky.

Well, the thing I was most looking forward to was a 100% humidity, herbal sauna to help with breathing issues that sometimes crop up on me in the wintertime. I had visited a sauna a long time ago, so wanted to go to the one close to me. It turns out that this sauna requires you to be clothing free to enter. This put me off into going for sometime, but I always thought about it. The sauna place is attached to a family swimming center, so I was confident that no shinanigens were going on in there. In fact, my wife and son went swimming in the family area, while I went into the sauna area.

I was not expecting it to be sexual in the sauna. (and it was not) I was however, unsure of how I was going to take it. (lets just say I am a normal guy) I was pleasantly surprised that my body or mind was not jolted into sexual thoughts. Instead, I enjoyed the feeling of being freed from daily constraints. Seems like shedding clothes also help me shed the day-to-day stuff from my brain.

I mentioned about jumping in the public shower while a couple ladies were in there. This was not about being sexual either. It felt so liberating that I was able to do something that my formal society has a taboo about. Everyone takes showers after every sauna session, so nearly everytime you go for a cool-down shower, it is co-ed. It is a beautiful thing.

This REALLY depends on what clothes you're wearing. A lot of folk would rather have your nut sack absorbed by microfiber than just evaporated into the air they breath. Nobody wants to breath ball sweat. That's the same reason a whole family doesn't share a washrag.

Ha! He called us fat! Get it? Because being fat makes you unattractive.

Y'all the land of black forest cake, beer, and candy houses. Your obesity rate ain't as high as ours but you're working on it. It's climbing every year and it's already over a quarter. One of us! One of us!

Also, saunas are pretty popular here. The way that goes down in the United States is, "Yeah, I guess. I mean, I can, Let me check my schedule. You got a guest pass, right? That's why you asked me? Because I'm not paying to sit in a room and sweat."

Whatwith capitalism and whatnot.

it might be that it's more taboo there. That might be the thing. Because it's kind of just... not here. I've literally been to those saunas with my family. Go sit in a hot room with all your uncles and the people they work with. Real fuckin sexy.

Also I really feel like they don't clean them. I don't like gyms and 'wellness centers' in general because I REALLY don't feel like they clean them. If they cleaned them why would they have that, "You must bring your own towel and clean up your own sweat" rule.

Also, I worked in a water park with a sauna for three years and I never once cleaned it. I cleaned the room before you went in with the juice center and shit, but never once cleaned the actual sauna.

So that's... idk that's a thing.

Kind of like how if you work at a restaurant you start thinking twice about eating there.

It is not about sexy, it is about chilling in the sauna/hot tubs.

The sauna here is clean. I saw them hose down the steam bath when no one was sitting on the benches. (Most of the patrons also hosed off the benches both before and after their session.)

There were also come general cleaning people going about the place while I was there. One came into the 'Bio Sauna' while I was inside and did something, but I wasn't paying attention.

So it's a place-by-place thing.

Well yeah, we hosed it down. I meant cleaning.
