My count runneth over

The activity count in the author feed, that is:

Looks like 200 is the maximum, which seems like a rather arbitrary number that doesn't have any technical justification.

More importantly, though, since the feed doesn't save whether notifications have been seen or read, it means that I can no longer tell whether anything happened to my stories w/o refreshing the browser tab :(

Those recent changes have sure made things better...

Either you get enormous activity, or you don't check the page very often. From this unpopular writer (who only follows a few)'s perspective, anyway.

My number is 200 as well. It has been steadily rising for a while. This is something new. In the past there would be a number showing the latest activity, and then when I clicked on it the number would disappear. Now the number never disappears, and it's presently stuck at 200. I have no idea what that means.

I had 200 on the Works Activity count just now, clicked the Archived Notifications Feed and back, and the counter has dropped to 155. Weird.
Even weirder, my All Activity doesn't have a count. At all. Never has.

Seems buggy. I don't know what my All Activity usually shows, but my Works Activity usually has some number in parentheses if there are new actions on my stories since last I actively clicked that tab. Just so happens someone favorited one of my stories a few minutes before my last login, but there's no number showing on Works Activity.

Might be an artifact of the changes @Manu deployed to archive older entries. Possibly an expected upper limit where a self-archiving routine would have been activated that didn't.

I check it a few times a day. The counter never clears. It's been steadily going up for the past several weeks, and now it apparently hit some kind of limit.

The notifications seem to show up as normal, they are just never marked as read.

The alerts aren't marked as read, so the COUNT(*) query (or equivalent) returns a steadily increasing number. Or the unread count is stored somewhere separately and never cleared.

Without knowing anything else about Literotica's infrastructure, my guess would be that they disabled writes of notifications read/unread status as a stopgap measure for some issues stemming from the recent changes/migration. Writes usually cause more contention than reads, especially on a high-traffic part of a website; it would make sense some amount of sense.

Of course, the side effect is that reads increase, because people will refresh the page more often to circumvent the unreliable counter. And now you don't even know when to refresh, since the count stays at 200, so you better do it even more frequently...

I increasingly realize how little I know or understand when it comes to the technical side of this stuff. It might be one explanation why I'm relatively more sanguine than some about what's going on. It's all just a black box to me, I don't know what's going on or understand how it works behind the scenes, and I don't get worked up about what I don't understand and can't change. It's the "Ignorant Guy's Serenity Prayer" approach.

Mine's stuck on 1. LOL Has been for a couple of days. I put in a bug report. Not all that important in and of itself, but any bug may be a symptom of something that is or could become a more pressing problem, so I sent it along.

I’m having the same problem, but not on my second account with my me story. However, regardless of which browser or device I use, it follows the NTH account, which tells me it’s something in the database or backend code.

Just got here,i have fear of been hacked and this is the reason i am not on other social media platform, and most expecially i am in the military and theres no other media platform that has exploration of ones fantasy.to cut all story short i hope i dnt get hacked here

Mine's been stuck on 1 for a couple of days, even though I've had more than one bit of activity. Only slightly more than one, but still.

Mine clears no problem. I've discussed this exact thing elsewhere and it seems to be an issue tied to some accounts but not others, it's quite an odd bug.

I also had an issue recently where if I went to another author's favorites list of authors and clicked through to a different author's profile, some authors I was already following would show the "follow" option as if I weren't following them. I tried so damn hard to follow them and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting the notification of following a new author and why it still had the "follow" instead of "unfollow" option on them. I ended up going through my favorites list and found them all near the beginning of my list, so I'd been following them for a while, it just wasn't registering that way, but only if I went through in a roundabout way. It was weird.

I clicked follow so many times that I made an announcement in my discord apologizing if they got a bunch of follow notifications from me. I was quite determined to follow them.

I noticed the follow bug too. If unsure, I refresh the page and it’ll usually tell me if I’m already following someone.

My activity counter works as usual. If you hit 200, then does the activity archive still contain everything earlier?

The activity feed itself appear to work fine, both the old and the new one, insofar as I can see new alerts coming in and adding to the latter. I don’t need to visit the archive; everything is in the new feed, it’s just all considered unread and never seen, so the counter stays pegged at 200.

Like others have reported, mine is working as normal - if I click on it, the number disappears.

Could it be to do with browsers? (I'm using Chrome on Android.)

It seems to be fairly random who is getting affected, and what number it gets stuck on. Manu's looking into it. So far, it appears to be only a glitched counter, and all the activity is showing as normal.

I have had no activity on my stories since yesterday. Not sure what's happening, but it seems to have stalled.

I've got activity from as recently as 2 hours ago on this one and 10 on another. ( both with counters stalled on different numbers ) So, it's not universal, at least. It could just be a lull. I usually get a dozen or so per day even when I'm in a famine period with nothing new recently released, but it will sometimes go a day or two with nothing.

Mine’s working… somewhat. If I click it, it drops, but only down to 52.

52? 42 I might understand, but 52?

Occasionally I'd see a glitch where the number would clear, but only temporarily, when switching between All Activity and Works Activity. It would still come back when you reloaded the page, so it might've been a client-side issue.

Yours, though, is much more bizarre. I shudder to think what's happening in the Lit's hamster farm...
