My brains are leaking out my ears!

I'm in the process of teaching myself web design. My brain feels so incredibly full tonight, I'm fearful it will leak out my ears!!! :)

It is great to have a job that challenges me so but man I feel overwhelmed at the same time. I'm using the Macromedia products: Dreamweaver and Fireworks to design our site. I drew my first graphic in Fireworks yesterday. What I thought was going to be a "little" website has exploded into a huge project. I feel pressure to umm, well, errr....not fuck it up!

I think my stress lies in the fact that this is not my only "big" project, I have several others running right now as well. I find it difficult to really give the attention I need to the website when I'm trying to hold the other projects together at the same time.

How do you juggle your work responsibilities? I find myself dreaming about what I need to accomplish the next day...that's a bad sign I think. I want and need to remember to leave work at work so I can enjoy the rest of my life. Feedback? Suggestions? Wisdom from your experiences?

Prioritize.

Organize.

Set goals.

Make a plan.

Take action.

(Heh! Now, if only I would do it for myself! LOL. I'm trying!)

I don't know that I'd call it wisdom, but here's what I can tell you about it.

First, count yoruself very fortunate that you're doing something that makes you so excited that you want to put so much work into it. That's not a common thing nowadays.

Second, make sure that what you're doing doesn't exceed the project's specifications. It's better to make perfect on a small scale then to let it get too big - bigger than what your boss might want - and to be less so.

Third, just keep an eye on your personal time. Working on your own is good, but some employers take advantage of it when they can. It's a hard thing, but it's wise not to give a job *too* much unpaid work, else they tend to expect just that. But, having said that, if you dont' think it's a problem, and your personal life's doing okay, then go for it!

*offers PB some earplugs to prevent leakage*

i love lists. i make a list of what needs to be done and break it down into segments for each day. i try not to let myself get ahead of what i've designated for the day. i'm a very visual person, so it helps.

Leaky brains

So, on top of everything else, you're learning something new?
& you're way busy, too?

"One dull pencil is better than 2 sharp minds when it comes to remebering something."

Setting something in memory may be one of the main reasons we sleep. Be sure you're getting enough of it.

Otherwise, that new knowledge will leak out your ears.

AAAACCCKKKKKK!!! I knew it! :)

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining, I'm really not trying to. I am way excited to be in a job that I love and to be working with people that I respect and show me the same back.

On that note...I'm going to go take a hot shower and crawl into bed. My throat has been hurting all day and I feel achy and cold.

Night everyone!
