Is there any means in Windows Vista to convert a wma file to mp3?
or do I need to find a program for this. I'm sure there was something in Windos ME, but I haven't done it in a very long time, and I haven't been able to find anything in Vista to accomplish this.
I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

I think ITunes can convert them automatically if you try to import a .WMA file to it. Or just rip stuff with ITunes and it will already be in MP3 format, circumventing that step altogether.

What are you using to play MP3's? I'm still using Win XP, but my mp3 player is MediaMonkey, and I believe it allows wma - mp3 conversion, as do many other players.

I have an mp3 player/FM transmitter that I use to play them through my truck radio, but I'm also getting an ipod for more portability. The thing is, I have tons of music, but not in mp3 format, so I just want to convert it.
Thanks for the interest in helping.

There is a freeware computer program called Audacity that should be able to convert your sound files. You can find it at Sourceforge or Tucows.

Thanks to everyone for all your advice.
I actually ended up with a program called sound taxi, which sucks.
After using this crummy program, I went back to Windows media, and found the option I was originally looking for, right where it was supposed to be, in front of my eyes, to rip music in various formats, including mp3. It's still the simplest and fastest of anything I've used.

Isn't that always the case? I'm glad you were successful.
