I have been trying to help a chatter with an issue.

She can log in through her browser on her phone. Chrome But she can log into her profile.

She has tried on a windows 11 computer Edge, Chrome and Firefox. She has cleared her cache and cookies (not that it matters because it is something on the computer...since it works on her browser on her phone)

We have shut off her fire wall to see if that was blocking anything. I have no idea what is going on.

I am at kind of a loss on this one. The only thing i can think of is there is something on the network? But I don't want to get into network stuff...so can anyone suggest anything else?

Are they running any extensions that might interfere perhaps or they haven't updated the browser?

Have them try logging in on a Private / Incognito mode ?

So the solution to my login problems had to do with my PC's system clock not being set to sync automatically. Once I turned that on, everything started working normally again.

Just an FYI in case anyone has a similar issue in the future.
Have they tried setting their PC's system clock to sync automatically? It worked for me a while back.

Was she specific about the point of the problem? Can she get to the chat page? Did the enter chat button execute? Does it give an error or just spin its wheels and leave her in limbo?

Ok well this is happening on 3 different browsers...edge (which i just asked her to test) chrome and fire fox and yes I got her to fix her clock just to make sure it was right...and she can log into the chat on her phone browser (chrome) that I know of all the browsers (well maybe not edge because she does not use that. only tried because I asked her to.) is up to date so I know its not a browser problem.

That's why I was confused. Because 98% of the time its the browser and lit not cooperating. I even tried running the unban codes even though she is not banned at all...but sometimes if someone gets booted the chat can do something we call a shadow ban and just block thier log in. I honestly was not sure what good this would do but i thought ya know what? weirder things have happened and it can't hurt.

So she has the spin the wheels and not log in thing happening and others she hits log in and then the screen blinks like its going to load and then just comes back to the log in screen as if nothing happened. she also got this last night when useing edge.

this is what happened...and right away even though she has never used edge...it did this

so i got her to clear her cache again but honestly edge and its previous version internet exploder in my opinion is garbage but yeah..sorry for anyone who uses edge but quite honestly after working for multiple ISP's and having to use it for testing in the past on my own computer..its the temu version of the wish version of browsers.

Is she logging in directly through the chat page or logging into the forum first and then going to chat? What happens if she logs out completely then goes straight to chat and logs in?

chat.literotica.com

I haven't looked in detail but I think the chat software accesses the auth server in a different way from the forum.

She is going directly to the chat. although i did ask if she would not mind trying the forum (she does not use it but i figured why not test it?) The screen shot above is what happened when she tried to come to the forum so it might be why she got a different screen.

and yeah i am well aware of the chat being an absolute persnickity bitch about things. I always joke that Isedora (the chat bot that gives the mods their phenomenal cosmic powers) if off her meds because there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason why it kicks people other than they are not as active and Izzy is a jealous wench when you check your email or something.

She seems to be able to get to her profile with no issues on her computer and she can get to the front page of lit. https://www.literotica.com/ but past that it all seems to take a conniption fit or it ignores that she is trying to log in at all.

Getting her to try the incognito mode. maybe this will help.

If it says she's logged in then it's a question of how far she gets into the sequence of getting into chat. Incognito would be good for removing cookies and history from the mix.

Does the Enter Chat link on the front page take her to the entry to chat? If not, can she enter chat.literotica.com in the browser address bar and get there that way?

Is the link under that Enter Chat As button active and does the page change when it's clicked?

Also, are they running a VPN?

There is a reason for this and it's a combination of the chat software and a buried feature in browsers. There's partial way to get around it so I'll write that up sometime.

she gets to the enter page like your picture and then she hits enter and either it flashes and brings her back to this page or it will do nothing.

No vpn. first thing i asked honestly.

she says she is trying incognito but she thinks she has tried that before. she is at work right now.

If she hovers over that button it should give the URL chat.literotica.com/chat She could also type that directly into her browser to see if it bypasses any code in the login page. Do you know if her phone is connected to WiFi when she uses it? Might be the setup on her router and connecting the phone through WiFi rather than data would rule that out.

Also check ********** is enabled on the PC, chat won't run without it.

Chrome -> Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Content -> **********

Not sure why that word gets censored, but you can see what it is in the highlighted part of the image.

have them go here and see what it says about their IP address: several possibilities exist. They are on a blacklist due to malware or having been hacked in the past. One person belonged to an ISP who signed up with a dodgy blacklist provider. They unknowingly have some parental settings on their computer or router or the dns they are using. Lots of possibilities but this may tell them something.

https://dnschecker.org/ip-blacklist-checker.php

Also, if by chance their phone can act as a hotspot, they could (even if just briefly to test it out), connect their computer to their phone’s WiFi hotspot, which would prove or disprove whether it’s their computer or not. (Although to be a spoilsport, it could be their router too.)

Finally, they could try a different dns server on their computer or router. I’m partial to quad9 (9.9.9.9 primary, 149.112.112.112 secondary) myself. Totally free and adds a helpful dose of malware site blocking (but not adult content blocking) to the mix.

None of these are guarantees obviously. But worth a try. Everyone should use quad9 or something like it though.

I am going to get her to try that link thank you JS. But I will be honest I am not sure about the hot spot thing or changing the DNS settings. The person i am helping is not exactly a techie type...and while I do know how to do the dns thing I am not sure if I can walk them through it over a chat.

Give a gal a fish, you feed her for a day.

Teach a gal to fish, you feed her for a lifetime.

Hit them with a fish, maybe you jolt them into action (I added that third part myself)

Ask her what brand and model number her router is, have her search for the manual herself, and she can have at it. Heck half of newer routers come with crappy (and insecure) helper tools or apps, it’s quite easy for people.

Well I don't go near the fishing holes anymore. I did my time with port assigning and router programming a long time ago. My support ends at the computer. I don't work for ISP's anymore and I am not messing with someones network settings. I feel like I have gone above and beyond what I can do for this.
