Anyone know how to change songs in mp3 format to the more condensed wma format. I can get about 3 times as many songs on my mp3/wma player if they are in the condensed form.

Try doing a search on goggle, or another search site, on convert mp3 to wav, and you'll get lots of hits.

Do a search for JetAudio and download that program. It has a good conversion tool that will convert .mp3 to other formats.

that or you can download a program called gold wave , not sure how long the trial period is though, and it allows you to play around with the song as well as converting it

Thanx. I'm playing with JetAudio now and I think it will work. In my searches I saw that some programs can turn mp3's to midi files for ringtones. Does anyone know how JetAudio does it?

WMA format cannot be one third the size of mp3. It just isnt. There is really no noticeable size difference, unless the bitrate of the WMA is less than the bitrate of the MP3.
MP3's are better IMO aswell, because you can change the MP3 tag, but with WMA, you cannot change anything about the file.

Thanks for bumping this! I missed this one the first time around!

:)

you shouldn't convert a lossey file to another lossey file format as the sound quality will be adversely affected. just like you shouldn't convert mp3 to wav back to mp3. you're setting yourself up for some crappy tunes.

First of all - WMA is more tag-able than MP3. Only Winamp 5 can't read it's tags. Try using QCD 4.5 or Windows Media Player 10.

Secondly, the best program to convert MP3 (or any other format) to WMA is probably the one from the mother ship itself - The Windows Media Encoder 9 Series (it's free).

Get it here :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

Anyone know if this program will turn a wma file into an mp3 file? I could do check myself but asking seems quicker.

Thanks.

No Moon Today. Bummer.

Nope. The encoder can only convert "to" Windows Media. It can't convert "from" it.
With it you can convert MP3 >> WMA but not WMA >> MP3.

To convert WMA to MP3 use this:

Ok. I've downloaded it. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do the conversion.

oN JetAudio there's a big button that says "conversion"

That's the easy part !

First right click any part of the QCD Player and click on "Preferences". Then find the Encode Format settings under the "Encoder" sub-heading and from the drop down menu select "MP3 audio". Enter your desired bitrate settings here.

Now, load the songs into QCD by clicking on the + sign in the playlist. Right click on a song (in the playlist) and click on Convert >> Convert All to >> MP3 Audio.

It's as simple as that. For more info, you can also read the Help file.
