OK, there are some threads here about movies, and maybe we don't need another. But as my roomie reminded me today, I wasted my teen years, and since, watching every rental video I could get a hold of.

So here is this deal?

You can't talk about movies as best or most or whatever in one big lump. There are so many different kinds right?

So I would LOVE to throw out one class or type of movie, and hear ya'll come back with your votes for favorite or best.

I am not gonna judge or keep track. Spill you guts, this ain't no Pulitzer Prize award. And when we run outa fun with one type I will throw out another ok?

*** The first 'genre' (my roomie laughs when I use that word causs with my hill billy accent I say it funny, but fuck her ok?) is Romantic Comedies. ***

(And if ya'll have ideas about what genre I should include, please email or post it here. Can't promise to keep way good track of them, but will try.)

Slap

OK. So slap me in the face, but didn't anyone care about my favorite thing in the world? Movies?

I'm more into Mysteries and Drama and really love horror, but my daughter rented " When Harry Met Sally", and "Theres Something About Mary". Those were pretty good movies.

Hi and welcome.

I'm a huge sap when it comes to movies. I watch my favorites over & over again. When I tire of them I fast foreward to the sappy parts.

Steel Magnolias
Pretty Woman
Iron Will
Lion King
The Hunt for Red October

You get the picture!

Sung Hi and me share a video obsession - for romantic comedies, mine are -

When Harry met Sally
Working Girl
Charade (the old Gary Grant one)

but best of all

Pretty Woman.

Defintely my faves are:

When Harry met Sally
Jerry Maguire (not really sure if that fits in the category but what the hell)
As good as it gets

New Topic!

OK! thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions.

So how about a new 'genre'?

One of my fav is 'film noire', ya know? dark, twisted mysteries and thrillers?

Any ideas?

I'm not sure most of what you guys mentioned really would be "film noir"

The Big Sleep
The Third Man

There Was This Movie Called,

After Hours

It Was Really Great! Funny, Suspensful & Well Written:)
It Has That Guy! Ya Know? LOL...Terri Garr And A Whole Giant Slew Of Excellent Cameos:)

Rent It! Enjoy It:)

There Are Others, But This One Jumped To The Front Of My Memory & Is Totally Dominating The Action:)

Yeah, isn't The Third Man like THE classic example of film noir. Living in Vienna you get The Third Man slammed down your throat. Thank goodness, I love the movie. Isn't Orson Welles grand?

It is a great flick, isn't it? Welles was indeed a genius and I think the fact that his last credit is the Transformers movie is one of those odd jokes that prove that the universe is wacked out.

Seen RKO 281?

foreign films

i loved La Vita y Bella (Life is Beautiful).... it was the first movie that ever made me cry :)

Unfortunately, no. I'll put it on my list now. I haven't been able to watch movies all semester.

I'd almost recommend it over Citizen Kane to someone who hasn't seen either. Kane has been so blown up thanks to that stupid AFI list that 99% of people who see it know say "Thats it?" RKO 281 at least tells the story without the hype.
