sadly when I was in boston this past week I was thrilled to only pay 7 dollars to see a movie...nyc totally rapes theater goers at 10 bucks a pop, no discounts

just complaining

That's why I wait for DVD's to come out or on TV!

Complaining with you.

If you don't get reduced prices for matinees (showings before 6 pm), wait until they come out on DVD.

$10 for a movie is insane. I saw more movies in theaters this year than I have in any other years (11: Changing Lanes, Collateral Damage, Die Another Day, Insomnia, Life Or Something Like It, Men In Black 2, Minority Report, Serving Sara, Spider-Man, The Sum Of All Fears, and XXX, and 12/13 if I see The Two Towers and/or Star Trek: Nemesis in the next 3 days) and I'd only be willing to spend $10 to see maybe four of them.

TB4p

Actually, when you compare the inflation of movie ticket prices to other forms of entertainment over the last thirty or so years, movies are pretty cheap.

Look how much we pay these days for concerts, plays and sporting events. If movie ticket prices had increased right along with the others we'd be paying over $20 per ticket.

is only five bucks for movie here

thinking you should come stay with me <wink>

It's 12-13 dollars here for a movie, thus the main reason for my increased outtings to the live theatre. Far more entertaining and they actually give students a break by reducing their tickets and giving us the best seats that are available, last time I went I was in 55 dollar seats which I paid 10 dollars for... I don't go to movies in the theatre very often now, maybe 1 time in 4 months.

Doesn't anyone go matinee?

I paid $5.25 to see Catch Me If You Can (a really good movie incidentally). I was surprised at how low the ticket is compared to what I am used to.

In Anchorage, Alaska Movies are 7.50 nights, 5.50 maintees, in the summer they have free childrens movies at 10 am if there are any out and there is the low cost theater pub where you can eat a pizza and drink a micro brew and watch a $2 movie usually about a week after it closed at the major theaters.

However, I have friends that work in two of three movie theaters in town, and go to the movies for free 9 times out of ten.

Damn...where I live in Alaska movies are ten bucks adults, seven for students...period. Then you get to pay for the popcorn and sodas and stuff...geez the safe at this place must look like Fort Knox. heh heh:p

I'm curious, has anyone gone theater hopping? What I mean is pay admission for one movie, but go to another movie once the first one is finished w/o actually leaving the theater.

One of the great things about summer is the drive in.

$5, two movies (new releases).

Drive in? You mean those things still exist?

A drive in up here in Alaska wouldn't make much sense:

Too damn cold in the winter, too damn sunny in the summer.

Right now the temp is like 5 below 0 F and in the summer in Anchorage we have like 3 hours of darkness a day for over a month, and it's not very dark.

Our 4th of July fireworks are held at midnight, so it's dark enough. We pray for cloudy skies that night so we can see them better.

The thing is, the movie becomes a secondary interest at the drive in.

Umm yea, people don't go to the drive in to watch movies...

I've got booze.

I didn't realize anyone actually watched movies at drive-in's anymore
