Imp, you're not thinking of "They Way You Look Tonight" are you?

Nope -- the one I was thinking of was mentioned earlier, anyway.

Celine Dion's cover of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is good, too.

I don't think these have been mentioned:

Amazed ~ Lonestar

Tonight I Celebrate My Love ~ Roberta Flack

Lady in Red ~ Chris DeBurgh

Angel Eyes ~ Jeff Healey

An Affair to Remember as sung in french by Deborak Kerr while the Grandmother played the piano.

Just a few I came up with. In no particular order.
I know I have left off a lot. Most of my fav's have already been mentioned~
Hope some these help~ Mostly depends on taste.
*Smiles*

Bobby Vinton ~ I Love How You Love Me
Aaron Tippon ~ My Blue Angel
Elvis ~ Love Me Tender
Charlie Rich ~ Behind Closed Doors
Tim McGraw &
Faith Hill ~ It's Your Love
George Strait ~You Look So Good In Love
Otis Redding ~Try A Lil Tenderness
Aerosmith ~ I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
Bad English ~ When I See You Smile

Call me crazy but I think

'I don't want to miss a thing' - AEROSMITH

is totally romantic.

Snoopy

Nope, not crazy -It is Romantic

Rhyme -I agree with Savage Garden"I knew I loved you." it's a song my husband and I really relate to, as we met online :)

i was going with a girl who was crazy about Leon Russel when his song came out. He started out playing piano for Joe Cocker, as I recall. "My Song" was nice, made even nicer by the fact that he couldn't really sing but was trying so hard to get the words out that it broke your heart.

For some reason Roberta Flack leaves me totally cold. I know her stuff is beautiful, but I guiess there's such a thing as having too nice a voice. "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is actually an Appalachian folk song, although I think she added new words to it. In my opinion, it's much more affecting when sung by an untrained voice accompanied by dulcimer, as if you're overhearing someone singing it to themselves.

No one mentioned Percy Sledge, "When a Man Loves a Woman." I guess slow dancing with her ass in your hands isn't really romance, but it's a great song for that. Maybe the best ever.

Aretha Franklin, "I Ain't Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)" is another good grinder. But now look who's confusing screweing with romance.

I'm still a sucker for "Star Dust." Last I heard it was still the most recorded song ever. But then I also love all those old standards, "Autumn In New York," "Moonlight In Vermont," "My Romace," "Everything Happens To Me," and all of Sinatra's torch songs.

Back when I was a kid, Johnny Mathis was apparently getting a lot of people laid. He made like sixty albums and my sister had all of them.

Who did the song "Everytime You Go Away (You Take a Piece of Me With You)"? One of the sexiest bass guitar parts ever.

On the last one, I know Paul Young did a version, not sure if it was original though :)

(Mac: There's your next CD compilation. "Bedroom Songs That Are Romance-Free. For those special times when you don't care, and don't want to care." :D )

Oh yes. Yes, yes. I'll have to make a second version. I'll lure him in with the Romance version, then when I've got him tied up ... er... then when I've got the handcu- no, no, that's not right; when we're all romanced out and ready for something else, I'll pop in the second version. Excellent idea, Sher.

GREAT ideas from you all! Way more than will ever fit on one CD. I'll give you my final list, but bear in mind it will be a reflection of my taste, not necessarily yours. ;) Of course I could always go with volumes.... Best Romance Songs, EVER Vol. 25439, Best Romance Songs, EVER Vol. 25440, Best Romance Songs, EVER Vol. 25441....

:D

I haven't read, but I doubt this one has been mentioned.

Cyndi Lauper - Time after time

If you fall, i will catch you, I will be waiting, time after time

Probably just some personal assossciations, but it's romanti to me :)

The Rose, sung by Bette Midler

"Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
An endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
And you it's only seed..."

It got me... repeatedly.

I went to Lake Tahoe to play some Hold 'Em. The cards were my friends and I was in a good mood, but I needed a lady. The place was jammed and, in order to get a table at the buffet, you needed four people. I feel in with a couple from New york City and her sister from Charleston, SC. The sister was wearing this very tight dress and I wanted to get the poor lady out of that tight dress and into silk sheets. Maybe she would and maybe she wouldn't until they played a very old song by Tommy Edwards: "It's All In The Game." If you wonder if I scored, listen to the song!

Honest to God, wherever I am when I hear that song I get chills and start to cry, big lug that I am.

There's something so forlorn in those two voices and that plaintive harmony, so lonely and beautiful. I don't think of it as romance, but it's just devastating to me.

Lately, I hear that song every time I'm in a low mood. It is beautiful, and it does make me cry. Same thing with Henley's "Boys of Summer."

But for a miserable, hit-the-bottom musical anguish-fest, you can't beat a Peter Gabriel song called "Mercy Street."

These people have to be stopped.

Triple ditto on "When A Man Loves A Woman." Bette Midler does a lovely cover, but Percy Sledge is the king.

Really? I would have expected something by the Beatles.

Speaking of which, "Yesterday" or "Michelle" almost have to be on any list of most romantic songs. It's easy to overlook them because the songs have been Muzakked to death in elevators and dentists offices. But still.

A few I like:

Crazy - Patsy Cline
'Till There Was You - Music Man
Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows
You Owe Me Nothing - Alannis Morisette
Oh How the Years Go By - Amy Grant
When Somebody Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan
The Lighthouse - Sons of Maxwell
Anniversary - Voltaire
Sweetwater - Tres Chicas
Queen of Argyll - Blarney Brothers
Green and Dumb - Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers
Falling for the First Time - Barenaked Ladies

:D Toy Story 2 is the only movie I remember making me cry in a theater. And all because of Sarah's song.
