The generalization I would go with is that we're not dealing with rocket scientists and brain surgeons on the board.

I don't know if it's just the political threads but there are a lot of people here who seem to think just regurgitating popular secondhand interpretations of things or actually being able to read something--once and basically scanning--counts as critical thought/close reading.
