Mosque at Ground Zero

I find it fascinating (and appalling and sad) that people are unable or unwilling to differentiate between insane zealots and regular religious folk. And that the fringe fruits can whip things into a frenzy and sway the decision.

I also can't decide whether Americans have a short memory or a selective memory.

I'm not prejudiced! Some of my best friends are white.. and male!

And straight!

I don't think any less of them for it. But most of my straight white male friends are unusual for their group. Not so stereotyped.

Yeah, but I guarantee your friends actually know, hang out with and get along with people of other ethnic/religious groups, unlike the circle-jerk dim bulb society that we have to deal with.

I wish Owera was still around. She'd tell them that we're going to break into their houses, use their bathrooms and eat their food. ;)

That's what people are afraid of?

I would think the Muslims would want to move their community center under all this protest. I think something bad is going to happen. I'm sure they want to stand up in the face of adversity, but I will be surprised if someone doesn't try to blow it up or shoot it up.

Which, unfortunately, would put them in the same bed as the Al Qaeda.

That's true, although both they and Al Qaeda would take issue with the comparison. The bombers/shooters would probably describe themselves as vigilantes.

You know, if you're going to concern yourself with other peoples' motives, you shouldn't complain when other people question your own. Going through life thinking everyone is out to get you somehow seems like a huge waste of time on really unpleasant thoughts and feelings.

So what if some Muslim people think it's "a sly way of saying 'in your face, Infidels!'"? That strikes me as an awfully childish attitude to take as a reason to build a sizable community center, and it seems even more childish to think that of the people who are making a such a large investment and commitment to their shared neighborhood.

And it's positively infantile to whip this up into a national political issue of Islamohate. There's no legal issue to prevent the construction of this building - the only issue seems to be "Waaaaahhhhh! You're hurting our feeeeeeelings! Our racist, xenophobic, irrational, "christian" feeeeeelings!"

Why can't you understand that the Muslims want, literally, to bring you and everyone else to their knees? Inch by inch, every day, Muslim influence is metastasizing across this country. Muslim teachings are incompatible with our Constitution. If they achieve their goal of taking over the west, high at the top of their list of things to do will be to dynamite all churches, probably with the congregations locked inside. These people are our deadly enemies and they will succeed if all the touchy-feelies keep intoning about religious tolerance. I am not about to tolerate any religion that aims to kill me and seize my property.

But what the fuck do I know. I'm just another right-wing racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe asshole.

You could search/replace "Muslim" with "Christian" and have a lovely bit of Al Qaida ranting there.

Absolutely!

But the SquareJohns of the world are too provincial, self-centered, and ignorant to see that. Lost cause. Just let 'em stew.

Hey, I got no problem with it as long as they agree that we should bomb mecca into the ground and build a strip club on the ashes.

Mecca's in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis are higher on Al Qaeda's hit list than the United States is.

Isn't it wonderful to be opinionated and ignorant and simplistic all at the same time?

That's one of the truly remarkable things about the United States. So many people who can't see farther east than Topeka or west than Dodge City--but are quick to act like they are secretary of state.

OK, thanks. I will. :D

What this has to do with your typically American lack of understanding of the complex international situation is beyond me. But I'll try not to lose sleep over it.

Hello again, squarejohn, I quoted your Post to display some truth, seriously lacking on this thread; thank you.

Selective memory of the apologists forget not just 9/11, but the Embassy bombings in various parts of the world, forget also Bali and Spain and London, forget that just this week 14 American Jihadists were indicted for terrorist associations and activities. Not to mention the idiot bomber willing to blow his balls off to destroy and aircraft and one who set his shoe on fire.

They also forget Islamic terror in the Philippines, throughout Southeast Asia, Somalia and indeed the entire African continent, not to forget the Lockerbie bomber, heralded as a hero in the Muslim/Islamic culture.

What you are witnessing is a panorama quite like the early and middle times of the rise of Nazi Germany...everyone with intelligence knew what was coming, few had the courage to state it openly and none the testicular fortitude to prepare for it or intercede.

It is not the ignorance of the leftish pundits here and elsewhere, it is the absence of a moral foundation that causes them to flounder about like a fish out of water.

Y'did good, squarejohn, kudo's!

America wants a lightning rod or 'ground' to discharge all its negative energy. And when the charge erupts it will explode upon muslims or mexicans or fags or Democrats or maybe all of them. One of these groups will do something to trip the trigger. I mean, we wanted to unload on BP and went after its Indian gas station operators cuz they were here. Its coming!

Rumor on the street has it that they're zeroing in on Tampa Bay.

Thanks for the kind words and a bit of sanity, Ami. Probably the greatest threat to this country is the rabid brand of anti-American liberalism that is currently infecting government, media, and academe. I wouldn't want be in a foxhole with them. On the other hand, I'd love to be in a locked room with a few, (at a time).

What foxhole? Who are you fighting, and why?
