Monty Python's The Life of Brian

Bright Side of Life
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistling]

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistling]

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...

Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistling]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistling]

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke. It's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistling]

Well - I just finished watching this for the first time in 20 years or so...

I think its time to take a stab at analysing it. To me this seems more like a comedy than a drama. I know a lot of you will argue with me on this point but I'm pretty sure it is a comedy. Yes... that's my position. Monty Python's "The Life of Brian" is most definitely a comedy. I'll go out on a limb on this one.

I also think its a parody... an allegory if you will. It seems quite obvious that they're making fun of the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. The beards everyone wears are a dead give away.

I have to disagree with you Dilly. It's definitely an Action/Thriller kinda movie. And I thought it was about Ben Franklin. But, what do I know?

No - I can see your point. I think this movie has meanings within meanings!

In my opinion, Life of Brian is the best of all Monty Python flicks, even beating out the usually more coveted Holy Grail. Aside from all the great lines, it still has the most entertaining chase scene in a movie ever.

I will not have my fwends widiculed by the common soldiewy. Now, anyone else feel like a little giggle when I mention my fwend... Biggus Dickus?
How about you? Do you find it wisible... when I say the name... Biggus Dickus?
He has a wife, you know. You know what she's called? She's called Incontinentia. Incontinentia Buttocks.

Let me come with you, Pontiuth. I may be of thome athithtanth if there ith a thudden crithith.

The film is a classic and has so many quotes from it that you could spend all day going over it -

I saw it when it first came out in late 70's in laughed then and still laugh every time I see it - lost count the number of times

Favourite lines - God so many - loved the " what have the Romans done for us scene " which now is a line in its own right quoted by people who dont even know where it came from

The popular peoples Judaean front or was it the popular front of Judaean people ...............LOL
