That's right, boys and girls, Montana has just been added to the poverty list. Want to know who's been running it for the last 10 years? Republicans.

So who ranks first through fourth? What are their economies based mostly upon? Montana's is beef if I recall correctly. Eat a cow, save a Montanan.

Myst

Were you being facetious?

Who has been running the 5 poorest states for most of the last 100 years?

You asked for it, Miles -

Southerners! Now tell us about how you're really from the land of Kennedy & Dukakis....

Most of the citizens carry revolvers on both hips. The whole state is like Dodge City.

Ever see "A River Runs Through It"? A total lie. It was actually filmed in northern Louisiana in the middle of the Cajun Mtns.

Beautiful place with plenty of trout and salmon.

Yum.

Montana is also

50th in rape
46th in assault
47th in robbery

It's time for a change. Vote democrat.

I happen to like Montana and not just because Myst is located there. I guess I am one of the 'oddballs, social misfits and society drop-outs'

I've always wanted to go there. Perhaps I could help Myst stuff the ballot boxes....

Max Baucus

A Jewish Dem Senator does just fine there, with some tricky dancing, per the tax cut bill. He sends me a Christmas card every years 'cause I gave him money once. And Montana has a very long progressive tradition, was the first state to give women the right to vote. Many of their senators have been distringuished, and I don't really mean the gutless Mike Mansfield, longtime Dem Majority Leader and later Ambassador to Japan. There was a big labor tradition, lots of miners. It's one of the only states I haven't seen that I really wish to visit (Oregon in three weeks!), along with Idaho, an even crazier state!

MT is in a sad state of affairs. Most of the state in on fire (An annual thing, lately), the governor got rid of out cigarette tax, which provided over $2 million for school funding, then cut MORE taxes from the school/university budget, which in turn made many schools have to get rid of music and art programs. The lands here are being logged by out of state corporations, and many of our former mines have been labeled as emergency clean-up sites. Most of the children have no insurance what-so-ever, teachers are paid the minimal amount in most of the US, we're known for having a senator who openly supported public flogging, we had no speed limit for 2 years, the conservation of park lands is going down the drain, we harbored the unabomber, the freemen, and only God knows who else has taken residence here. We've had bricks thrown through Jewish people's homes, which was turned into a made for TV movie on USA, made national headlines with our twitty governor who's IQ, am I almost postive is below 80, making her mentally retarded. She commends her aid, who is responsible for killing one of state appointees in a drunken car crash. We also have one of the lowest wages in the nation for all MT employees. Statistics lie, come to MT, and you'll see all the poverty we have here. The reason we don't have more murders and rapes is because hardly anyone lives here anymore. They all moved to better-paying states. So WD, stop distorting facts and start thinking.

Who is distorting facts? The crime figures are per capita and based on 1998 data. It's just as ludicrous to blame republicans for economic problems in Montana as it is to give them credit for the lowest crime rates in the country. Montana is a very special case. It's one of the largest states in terms of area, and one of the tiniest in terms of population. Washington DC is more liberal than Montana is conservative. They also have outrageous crime and murder rates. Is that an indictment of liberalism?
