Has your house been broken into or your children threatened or your home answering machine received death threats?

Let's just say that my real life has been seriously impacted by things I chose to reveal to 'friends' online. Impacted to the point that for a very long time, I looked over my shoulder no matter where I was or what I was doing.

And I never blamed anyone except myself, because I, and no one else, made the decision to reveal that information.

It's also reality. This is a private website and Laurel is the highest authority. She does a pretty good job but I don't think she ever claimed to be perfect.

I am not disputing the reality of it. But when a mod DELIBERATELY uses thier powers to fuck people over for thier own ammusement they should be banned. Otherwise the message it sends is that rules are not really the rules.

I'm certain that's how you feel but that's not what happened. Nor will it happen. That is life in an unjust world, yes?

I don't get this. Instead of asking for a mod, why not just go to a moderated forum? Part of what I like about the GB is that it's not moderated. If you ware worried that you're going to be in more danger if there's not a mod, then go to a place on the net that has a mod. Don't restrict it for those of us who enjoy a modless board.

I suspect you would feel much differently had it been you who was fucked over.

And what about Killswitch and the Blacksnake incident? You think he should still be allowed to post here too?

What I want is for the few rules here to actually be enforced.

I'd like them to be enforced in a way that is swift and public so that people know they work. That way they'll feel safe about playing here.

Consider the fact that many people here do not want the world knowing that they post here. How many teachers are here who would lose their jobs if their Lit attendance became public knowledge? How many attorneys could be in hot water? How many military people with security clearance or bankers? The list goes on.

There are many reasons WHY a place like this needs to have rules regarding privacy in place.

I want to see those rules followed. As it stands now, they're not.

But Mia, isn't that the very thing YOU would like people to do? Not to be exceedingly bitchy, but you have a history here of not exactly being honest, or protecting other people's information as much as you probably could have. And you, for the most part, have enjoyed the chance to reinvent yourself, and have people get to know the new and improved you.

Draaah is a wonderful human being who I know off the board, in the flesh, as well as on here. She fucked up huge, and she doesn't deny that. But knowing the whole person that she is, I can't imagine holding her fuck up against her.

I didn't jeopardize anyone's safety off this board. Nice try, though.

The only one negatively impacted by my behaviour was myself. I haven't "reinvented" myself. I simply grew up.

Besides...how could anyone forget anything stupid that I ever said...after all, it does get brought up every single time someone disagrees with my point of view.

You can make excuses for draaah's behaviour all you like...heck, why not just support Killswitch and Hanns while you are at it? After all, the three of them did the exact same things.

Yes. And not because I'm friends with him. I'm not. But we shouldn't necessarily be able to avoid every asshole on the planet.

Ok, and when someone starts mailing dead animals to your kids? Should they still be allowed to post?

I've gotten fucked over many a time online and in the real world. As it stands, Literotica is still safer than many places in the real world and fairer than most on-line or off.

"And what about Killswitch and the Blacksnake incident? You think he should still be allowed to post here too?"

Killswitch? Yes. Blacksnake? Yes.

That statement is simply not true, and how you can say it bewilders me.

Yes. When people make real world threats then it's time to handle it in the real world. There are murders and rapist posting at Lit. There are probably people posting from prison. Literotica is not the police or the social justice system.

Thanks, Q and Thunderbear.

So, if Mod responsibilities can be limited like this, what's wrong with having one on the GB? Not to remove every little post that gets someone tweaked, but only to remove posts that expose personal information?

Well, moderators can also just go into your post and edit it. It leaves marks, but they can do it.

I fear the slippery slope. Once a GB Mod is named, they will come under extreme scrutiny for everything they do. (They certainly would no longer be able to function as regular posters). The tendency will increasingly be for more rules, tighter regulation.

But having said that, I still would prefer one moderated GB to splitting it into one moderated and one unmoderated board.

Was I the one stupid enough to let someone have my personal info? Or post enough personal info that my exact location could be deduced?

I'm not getting why Lit should be any different than any other mini-society. If some wacko in my town was being that kind of a fucker, I couldn't demand he be removed from the town. I could only take steps to protect myself and my family, until the authorities took action. Whatever that action might be. It works the same here. Random bad shit happens. One should take appropriate steps to make sure that one is protected. To do less than that is irresponsible and frankly, stupid.

Someone's killing, gutting and chopping up dead animals...then feeding them to my kids........ EVERY DAY!!!!

Oh yeah..that's me...I love to bbq.

Ok, so even if the threats someone posts here become reality they should still be able to post.
We are just going to disagree here.

You obviously haven't been many places in real life. Come to Vegas sometime and I'll drop you off in a neighborhood that's far more dangerous than Lit could ever be. Be sure to wear black and red, okay?

Not all the person info that has been posted here was divulged by the victims. And some of the stuff that was posted led to harmful acts in RL.

I detest Killswitch, you know that.

But, the bottom line is, he didn't break any Lit rules in the Blacksnake situation. He found BS's website and used info he found there in a harmful way, via email.

They fought about it here, but it didn't happen here.

If he is banned for something that went on elsewhere online, where do you then draw the line? If a Lit member threatened another member on Yahoo chat, would it be Lit's responsibility to take action against them? If it happened at a Litogether?

Read my post again, Mia. I wasn't equating the behavior.

And I'm NOT making excuses for her behavior. I believe I even said she fucked up. I was responding specifically to your post in which you said that you couldn't understand why people would treat her as if nothing happened. My response was that I KNOW her. In a real and personal way. I know that she knows that she fucked up, and I know that one fuck up, no matter how serious, does not an entire person make. The reason I would never extend that sort of leniency in opinion to KS or Hanns, or several other people on this board whom I consider a waste of oxygen, is because I DON'T know them in real life. The only 'them' I know is what they choose to reveal on this board. For those people whom I know off the board, and there are many, I would naturally be expected to weigh my real life knowledge of them against the online knowledge, and make my judgements based on a complete picture of them.

It really shouldn't be that difficult to understand. I'm sure that most people here have offline friends whom they've known for quite some time, and been shocked by a behavior or two. THat doesn't necessarily end the friendship, even if it does make you take a moment to reflect on the friendship, and the friend.

That statement is silly. You have NO idea the places I have been. On the net or in RL. But certainly a personal attack is warranted here since that would be the only way to deflect the truth of my previous statement.

Okay, so we ban a poster if they hurt another member. What's to keep me from PMing Laurel and saying Queerseti pulled me into an alley and raped me last night?

You're right about Lit's obligation. There's no way they can do anything more than ENFORCE the RULES they have in place here.
