To go with what BK said, this whole thing of getting all wrapped in your football team is primal pack behavior -- those are the emotions being satisfied. Perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise if it spills over into some other forms of pack behavior?

Well, yes, it does surprise. Football isn't new.

50 years ago people cheered on their teams and wore stupid hats. They didn't rush the field and tear down goalposts. They didn't physically attack people seated next to them or destroy property.

They swallowed goldfish and went to dances afterwards!

I simply wondered why people react differently now.
