I am eating just the most perfect creamy lovely avocado right now, with just a little bit of salt. Goddamn, it's good. I can't remember the last itme I had one, they're usually so expensive this time of year, plus I try to eat 'in season', but we just got in the first ones of the year from southern Spain. Oh, man, mmmmm.

Give me some guacamole!!! I love that stuff!

I went to a Giant grocery store near me yesterday in search of the perfect avocado for guacamole . Not finding the avacados on the first sweep, I asked the boy who was setting out fruit.

Me: Excuse me, where are the avocados?

Him: The what?

Me: Avocados. They're a vegetable? Looks like a dark green pear?

Him: Did you look for them?

Me: Yes, but I may have missed them - that's why I'm asking... (trying to keep from yelling) Might there be some that are not out?

Him: Is that a paste?

Me: NO. It's a vegetable. You can make a paste out of it ...(can't believe I'm explaining what an avocado is to a produce boy, but he's young so....) Can you ask someone?

He goes in the back and comes out with an older man.

Older Man: Can I help you?

Me: Yes. Do you have any avocados?

OM: Is that a paste?

Me: No, it's not. Thanks.

At which point I left and went yo the next grocery store and found avocados by myself.

Yeah, but why are they so damn expensive? I mean, they grow here, you'd at least thing they'd be cheap.

You know what my theory is? We're importing avocados from Spain, and the Spanish are getting ours. That way, both countries can inflate the price, but they know people will still buy them because they're so delicious.

Lightly toasted focaccia bread with melted cheddar and sliced tomatos, with a couple of avocado slices on the side.

*sluuuurp*

Northern San Diego County is the Avocado capital of the US. Gotta love that green gold.

Avocados are fruits, not veggies.

Avocado? blech. When I eat Mexican, I'm always sure to tell them to keep that guac stuff away from my plate.

Taking guacamole off a Mexican dish?? That's blasphemy!!!

Mash one whole avocado in a dish with a teaspoon of mayonaise and spread on fresh-baked sourdough bread. Serve with a bowl of hot soup for lunch. Mmmmm!

I simply like to eat an avocado straight from the tree. Cut in half, discard the seed and enjoy. Good stuff!

:)

Check ur local Walmart superstore (the huge ones with a grocery setion) usually 2 or 3 for a dollar there or at local Fiesta if you have one.

Thanks - I can never remember if a fruit has seeds, or a pit or what...

But I don't think that mattered to the produce guy. :D
