Um, Pixie, I have a question, since this is sorta a thread about Little People and all.
I was taught that dwarves are NOT short people, (or people under a certain height), but rather people that encompass a range of various medical conditions under the heading of "dwarfism" (such as achondroplasia, etc.).
Also, I learned that "midgets" are people with pituitary dwarfism, which causes a lack of human growth hormone, causing, as Spin said, a perfectly proportioned but very small person. These people are very rare considering a cure was found for this condition in the 60's.
Not to challenge your authority or anything, but are the terms dwarf or midget now considered insulting or inappropriate?

Yes there are many conditions that can cause dwarfism. Dwarfism is not a disease but a category. kinda like a book shelf. a dwarf is anyone under 4'10" I was told. as for midget thats wrong LOL just another word for dwarf. I've been called a midget to my face before 
never been called dwarf to my face thought.
and I think they have always been considered degrading just like crippled. ack I hate that word.
Just like some people degrad people who are gay and call them fag. I find that offensive its ok to joke with others liek you but be called that to your face is a little insulting. I've joked with other little people made midget jokes but LOL thats between us.

dawrf really annoys me to. feels like being mocked. I'm not a creature fom a fantasy novel! when I hear dwarf I think of snow white and the seven dwarves
