Mexico?

I'm going to Mexico, and I was wondering if anyone here can fill me in a bit on a question I've got. I suppose I could Ask Jeeves, but you all are so much more fun. So. Here goes.

To what degree (if at all) is nudity allowed on Mexican beaches? I'm going to be in Nueva Vallarta, a still-developing resort area, and I'm thinking there might be some secluded options available to me. Does anyone know? I don't want to get arrested, or offend the locals. (And don't worry, I'm NOT going to tan. I am packing a few bottles of spf45 sunscreen. I just want to be nekkid outdoors, really.)

Aww, I would, but I'm only taking a tiny duffel. It's going to be nice to wear nothing but little dresses or my bathing suit for the whole week.

I've traveled fairly extensively in Mexico. Mostly Baja, some mainland.

Most of my travels were contained to remote towns and deserted beaches, where we went clothing free when we were alone or mostly alone on the beach. (This was with my family when I was growing up.) You should be aware that Mexicans are much more modest than us. Even going to town in shorts and a tank top can cause stares in some places.

That being said, if it's a resort area, or even an up-and-coming resort area, the people there most likely expect short shorts and the like from Americans.

Topless or nudity on populated public beaches? I doubt it, unless it's a private nudist beach.

Heh. I CAN tan, but I choose not to. I've gone a full 7 years without tanning. I hate the way tanlines look on me, so if I go out in the sun, I choose the highest SPF possible and keep applying during the day. If I decided to forego the SPF at this point, I'd be a crocodilian-lobster-creature by the end of the day. And that is decidedly unattractive.

I'll probably come back with a tan, but that can be easily remedied once I get back to my customary nocturnal schedule. It'll fade fast.

I won't take my clothes off unless it's totally secluded, and since I never lay out or nap at the beach, I'll be able to keep an eye out for any people and cover up in time. I definitely don't want to commit a social faux pas. I don't want to be one of those Americans that give Americans a bad name.

yeah, ive been to mexico alot..mostly resort areas like you speak of.. but ive never seen anyone nude on the beach, or even partially nude..
