Here’s an interesting fact I recently learned, something that may offer hope for narrowing the desire discrepancy that exists in many otherwise healthy mature relationships.

For decades It has been the standard of care in Australia to prescribe testosterone to women once they hit menopause. The goal is to bring their T-level back into the pre-menopausal range. Apparently, there is strong evidence that doing this helps women to maintain their pre-menopausal libido, arousal (ie., vaginal lubrication) and ability to orgasm. Consequently, there are several approved formulations of testosterone cream for women in Australia. This contrasts with the US, where - if women can even find a doctor to prescribe it - they have to use creams meant for men which increases chances of dosing errors and subsequent side effects OR pay lots of money for custom mixed pellets that require a doctor to imbed beneath the skin.

Do we have any women Lit members from down under who can weigh in on this? Are desire discrepancies among aging couples less common in Australia because of this?

Australian Menopause Society Statement on Testosterone

Note: This is different than full Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which can be unsafe for some women with a history or a genetic propensity for Breast Cancer. By contrast, Testosterone therapy - when the goal is simply to restore levels to pre-menopausal levels - is widely considered to be very safe.

No, I'm not a doctor. So, YES! ..Check with yours.
