When I was a kid, I used to sneak my dad's Playboy magazines to look at the Vargas pinups. I loved him and his art. He loved the female form and conveyed that so well in his illustrations. He inspired and encouraged my own art and so much of what I drew and still draw is nude women. Nothing is as beautiful to me, as the female form.

Hefner is a man of impeccable taste and genius: picking the likes of LeRoy Neiman, Shel Silverstein ("Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "Where the Wild Things Are" are just 2 of the kids books he wrote and that my kids loved) Tom Wolfe and Vargas to grace his pages with great art and great words. By using great artists and writers for his magazine, Hef brought to the average Joe, the chance to experience and learn from those minds. American society today, owes a huge debt to Hugh Hefner for more than just pretty centerfolds. I personally owe him, for the Vargas pinups had a great deal to do with my love of art and my love of creating it.

Anyone care to add?

I'd add that Maurice Sendak wrote "Where the Wild Things Are." Otherwise, it was a delightful publication when I was a younger man, yes.

You poor boy. Back in the days when the centerfold had a belly button staple... I remember that well.

I used to read all my Dads nudie magazines, he thought they were well hidden but, I found them.:D Vargas pinups were excellent. Ever see any drawings by Maxfield Parrish? The women were always clothed, but I find some of his drawings sensual.:)

And his famous 'Parrish blue.' I also love the fairy tale/mythological aspect of his work too.

Say no more.

ohhh yesss. Does he not do lovely things with a paintbrush?

Thank you Lance.

You're welcome. In many ways, I prefer his idealization of the female form to most photography, perhaps because of its sensual detail and clingy fabric interpretations.

Lance

Playboy has always been an inspiration for my art as well, with the likes of the late Patrick Nagel doing many graphic illustrations starting with the forum section as I remember. Many artists have graced the cover such as op artist Peter Max, Lictenstein and not to mention fantasy artist Boris. I remember back in college reading heavy metal magazine, studying the likes of Liberatore, saying I want to do this....yeah this....

:p

And not only the sensual nature but also, the inocent contenance of his subjects.

There is currently an exhibit at the Guggenheim, here in Las Vegas with one of Lictenstein's works in it. I went to it on my birthday, 3 weeks ago. It was quite wonderful since we don't have the high art so many other cities enjoy.

That sounds like a wonderful birthday gift rose, too bad none of my friends enjoy evening at at gallery, or the opera. Heck just getting dressed to the nines is half the fun, did anyone say limo? Why not makes the evening more memorable.

God damn it Lance.... will you please fly to Las Vegas and show me how to attach these images?

I cannot get this to work for anything!

Las Vegas has a reputation for being gaudy, plastic and phoney. All of which I still find pretty and also pretty amazing. But when we get exhibits like the ones at the Guggenheim or the Faberge show at the Belligio, I take full advantage of them. I think many people here do also. The price is really minimal in comparison to what you get for your money.

And I love a LIMO!!!!

GRRRRRR

Never fucking mind. The painting is called Sheer Elegance. I give fucking up!

I also have great memories of sneaking my dads Playboys. I found a huge stack in the basement when I was a kid and have been a perv ever since.
