mass?

I'm glad my students will never thing of me as a peice of meat! hehe

ok, off to northampton for some christmas/Hanukkah shopping

I think I should do some more of that later tonight after study happy time. With all the Christmas shopping I've done, one would think I should be finished, but noooo.... :D I'm just a giver.

well, head on over to Faces...they have some nice things. Thornes had some OK things too. It's always easier to buy moms things, isnt it???
Target is the way to go, though...one stop!

I think I'll just get my dad 1/2lb of coffee beans and a tshirt from Raos.

Yesterday night was the first time I was in Northampton, and I didn't really spend time there, just waited for some buses, so I don't really know where everything is. I'm definitely going to Target though, because there's something I know I'm getting there for my roomie. I just hope that she's not getting it from someone else, too. That'll be embarrassing to have to return it.

So, we saved the Iraqi people from Sadam....
now, who is going to save us from W?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a joke or something.

And that's exactly the question we should be asking...who will save us...unfortunately this capture will probably up his popularity...

or at least make the dumb ass americans in support of all this totally forget about Osama. Who? oh yeah...him....can't find him, can we?
Maybe he's in Crawford!

Most disturbing...

Hmmm....have I involved myself in a den of liberalism!?! I guesse I should not be shocked as you are at UMASS...and almost all schools of higher learnign in this state are extremely liberal in both curriculum and in selection of faculty.

But I must speak out! While Iraq may not have been necessary at this time, the time would have come in the future...and perhaps the war would have been of a a completely differrent cloth? Nuclear blasts can be very messy...and sarin gas is not much more fun.

As for Usama Bin Laden, well, if I hid out in the areas of MA which I know like back of my hand Law Enforcement would have great difficulty in finding me as well. Especially if a large portion of the population in that area supported my beliefs. We (U.S.) did not start the war on terror. It was brought to us from a far. But we must fight it, and, I would prefer it be fought there rather than here. Enough said.

Hannibal Lector

I agree that sooner or later this war would have had to been fought, but Saddam posed no immediate threat to the United States. Bush purposefully and knowingly lied in order to sway the American people to believe this was necesary, and i'll admit, I was convinced for a while, but only for a while. And I completely fail to agree that terrorism was brought on us, Osamma bin Laden was trained and armed by the United States government in order to overthrow the previous regime in power. He was given top military training specifically in how to inflict terrorism on others and given the money to be able to fund whatever it is he wanted to do. Furthermore, I also disagree that colleges tend to hire more liberal teachers and staff, it just happens to be that most teachers who wish to help others are liberal in nature.

Nothing like a good discussion. Having been schooled in MA and in CA, I just find the mindset, (this is my opinion only) is more liberal overrall here than elsewhere in this country. As for Usama Bin Laden, yes the mujahadeen were trained by the CIA and our European allies in order to combat the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. The Cold War was a necessary evil, and both sides took actions to forward their position in the world. Luckily it didn't become a HOT WAR or we wouldn't be having this fine conversation at all...we'd be just so much ash!

As for terrorism, I will give you a timeline which can agree or disagree with, as I said before it is simply my opinion. The previous democratic leader of this country chose to act less than decisively to several acts of terror aimed at the U.S. abroad. Specifically the car bomd on the Air Force barracks in Saudi Arabia (I believe it was Dhahran but cannot remember...old age!?*) followed by the bombing of two U.S. embassies on the same day, and finally the attack on the USS Cole in Qatar. All these attacks were overseas to this point. The response was, well, minimal. The man in charge didn't have the stomach to engage in actions which he so often liked to attribute to his opposites in the Republican party. He was too busy in the ORAL OFFICe with ML. And thus, we have paid the price with Sept. 11, and the threats that followed.

This 'problem' was allowed to smolder untended until it came back and bit us. The judicious use of force prior to this by military spec ops could have solved this along time ago, or at least kept them off balance and away from our homeland. But the point is moot, they are here and we have to deal with them...because they would love nothing bette rthan to 'deal' with us. Pan to a mushroom cloud over D.C. or a sarin gas attack in the NY subway system...or closer to home? Maybe an attack on the DNC in Boston this coming year. Terrorism will not go away, and whether we helped to 'create the monster' or not...it is time to kill the monster.

Merry Xmas

I hate how most of the people in our country don't care what other countries think about us. I believe it will come back to bite us in the butt. I was quite saddened when my Spanish teacher last year (who was an old hippie, I loved her so much :) ) told me that most countries in Europe and such despise us. Not necessarily the citizens, but our government. I think that should be a red flag. We don't like other countries forms of government, so we go in and stop it, but when other countries don't like ours, we say tough. I hate how we try to emit this feeling of "come here and you can have equality" and stuff, when our country has such a painful superiority complex. I have to agree with Michael Moore (yes, I'm a fan  ) when he basically puts out that he loves this country, but he hates how the government is running it and what's happening to it.

Urg, just my uneducated and illinformed 2 cents.

Your opinion is your opinion and is always welcome CG.. That is what makes this country great! We don't have to agree and we suffer no repercussions for our dissenting opinions.

ugh try LIVING in Europe! they hate us SO much it's almost funny.
I lived in Denmark and learned so much about american arrogance. we do whatever we want, when ever we want, all because we helped win WWII. Get over it. the world is much better when people stop trying to be #1.
The Muslims don't hate us because we're Ameircan, they hate us because we want to make everyone else American on the road to globalization that will, in the end, only benefit a select few

good luck on finals you two!

I agree fully.

And that's for the luck, I'll need it because I'm a crappy studier.

I think I need a little more than luck on finals, especially the one I just took. Anyway, speaking of our former president, he did more than any other president to counter terrorism, specifically with bin Laden. He more than doubled the counterterrorism budget in this country and was respoinsible for stopping terrorist attacks on the pope, the UN headquarters, the FBI building, and the LA and Boston airports to name a few. Also, after only a month and a half into his presendency the World Trade Center was bombed. Did he go to war with another third world country that had nothing to do with it? No, he found and tried Ramzi Yousef, Abdul Hakim Murad, and Wali Khan Amin Shah, the ones responsible for the bombings, all currently in jail. Seems like he didn't have any trouble find them, why? Cause he was actually looking for them! And what about stopping this stuff before it happens? In 1998 Clinton signed an order to assasinate Osamma bin Laden. In 2000, al Quida bombed the USS Cole, promting Clinton to have the most extensive plan to eliminate al Quida ever devised. Knowing that it would put the US into war, he decided to wait, give the plan to Bush, and allow him to carry it out. Clinton didn't want to give Bush a country at war, plus having to change presidents at such a time would not have been a smart idea. What did Bush did? He went on vacation, put it off, and didn't do anything about it even after repeated warnings that al Quida might be planning something (specifically he was warned certain people might be learning to fly planes into buildings). And after September 11th what did we do to stop al Quida? ... we went after Saddam.

I think the reason americans are so arrogant is not only because of WWII (hell how many people did we let die before we even got invloved) but our VERY short history has been dotted with conflict and war...we kinda are the biggest bullies on the block, but we don't (publicly anyways) endorse what most americans find evil or wrong. Like they say....whats worse the evil you know or the evil you don't...

aaww you are all so great! when are we having a lit get together?!?

maybe CG and yaz should study together - y'all seem to be on the same track.
are you taking any social sciences next term?

Next semester... lets see. I am taking Modern Physics I, Differential Equations, Topics in Astrophysics, and Techniques of Theoretical Physics. I was gonna take Drugs & Society but I couldn't get in, and I really wanted that one too. I'll just have to try to get in next semester.

Let's see...next semester I'm taking some wonderfully dull intro classes because I have to for pre-med. Basically the second half of this semester with some differences. Bio 101, Chem 122, Psych 100, biotap seminar part deux (I hate most of the people in the group...they're like soap opera wannabes (their lives are always so dramatic and complicated) who never shut their damn cellphones and always talk through seminar...oy! but not all of them are like that), medical ethics (which my roomie said she heard that it was a bad class, but whatever, I can always drop it), and I really want to take marching percussion tech because I love marimbas! But unless I get permission from Hannum, I can't. :(
