Married men have less testosterone

Married men who spend time with their wives and kids have lower testosterone levels than bachelors. The discovery suggests that having less of the hormone could play a part in encouraging men to devote their energies to the family rather
than looking for another partner.
[...]
The researchers suggest that lower testosterone makes dads less likely to stray, and encourages them to be true to their wives and spend time with their families. In turn, being around the family may lower testosterone, creating a continuous feedback loop. Gray speculates that social relationships have an effect on testosterone.

*Dont know if I beleive that :D

Sure I can see how it could be true. yet a major variable has been left out. That is the MAN is being completely saticfied by his wife........ thats why he has not strayed. Why the hell should he?

Hmm. More faithful than whom?

Most unmarried men don't really have to be faithful, do they?

ditto - interesting interpretation of the study, which only said that they had lower testosterone levels if they spent time with the wife and kids.

sad that we're so emasculating... :(

They measured testosterone in the saliva of 58 men who were either single, married or married with children. In all the men hormone levels fell over the course of the day as part of a natural daily cycle that peaks in the morning.

Next they hope to separate out the effects of marriage from parenting by studying testosterone in men who have separated from their wives, but have joint custody of their children.

*could be a interesting twist

I dont believe that at all, especially since I used to be married.Being unfaithful is a choice made by the mind and has nothing to do with testerone levels. IMHO

Is it that married men have less testosterone or perhaps just fewer brain cells? :D

Sounds like a crock to me.

Too many outside factors come into a study like this, and with a sample consisting of only 58 men results just can't be conclusive.

Sounds more like someone wanted to present a paper and threw these figures together quickly.

because the are married? or because they cheat?

LOL

:D

I'm not sure I agree married men stray less. HAPPILY married men, perhaps. When love and trust and commitment are strong, why would EITHER partner stray?

Any figures on how much WOMEN cheat, single vs. married?

Ok you want statistics I will give you some:

-60% of men and 40% of women will have an extramarital affair.
-The Hite Report on Male Sexuality of 1980 found that 72% of men married two years or more had had an extramarital affair.
-Shere Hite's 1987 survey of women found that 70% of women married five years or more had had an extramarital affair.
-People who have affairs are more likely to divorce.
-80% of those who divorce as the result of an affair later regret their decision.
-Approximately 15% of women and 25% of men have more than four affairs during their married lives.
-Fewer than 10% of people having affairs divorce their spouse and marry their lover. 75% of these marriages end in divorce.
-When a marriage survives an affair, it takes between one and three years to recover.

OnlineLove stats
-One in 10 respondents said they are addicted to sex and the Internet, according to an online survey of38,000 Internet users.
MSNBC.com and Dr. Alvin Cooper

-Results show that respondents devote three hours each week to online sexual exploits. 25% have felt that they lost control of their Internet sexual exploits at least once or that the activity caused problems in their lives.
MSNBC.com and Dr. Alvin Cooper

-Only 46% of men believe that online affairs are adultery.
DivorceMag

-Up to 37% of men and 22% of women admit to having affairs. Researchers think the vast majority of the millions of people who visit chat rooms, have multiple "special friends" .
Dr. Bob Lanier, askbob.com

-80% think it's Ok to talk with a stranger identified as the opposite sex. 75% thinks it's ok to visit an adult site.
"Monogamy Myth", Therapist Peggy Vaughn

-Statistics show more than 72,000 sexually explicit sites on the web and an estimated 266 new porn sites being added each day. These sites alone generate a revenue of $1 billion dollars each year.
Harding Institute

-One-third of divorce litigation is caused by online affairs.
"This Is An Internet E-Mergency", The Fortino Group

-Approximately 70% of time on-line is spent in chatrooms or sending e-mail; of these interactions, the vast majority are romantic in nature.
Dr. Michael Adamse, PhD., co-author of "Affairs of the Net: The Cybershrinks' Guide to Online
Relationships"

That about it!!! scary

OH Shit!

Those social academic research folks will study anything and come up with totally worthless bull shit analyses. I think that researcher is stretching the connection between straying sexually from spouse and hormone level a little bit. I have a high testosterone level (must be cuz I'm horny all the time) and I haven't strayed from my wife.

That's your federal research grant dollars at work folks. Don't you just love all the universities studying dumb stuff.

What did they regret? That they cheated, or that they got divorced?

-Shere Hite's 1987 survey of women found that 70% of women married five years or more had had an extramarital affair. Damn, where was my wife last nightt??

25% of men have more than four affairs during their married lives. Man o'l man, I better get busy.

respondents said they are addicted to sex and the Internet -- guilty as charged officer. ( I'm here aren't I)

Personally, I think it's spot on.

Put me in a hay loft and on the loose and I feel - and probably behave - like a 20 year old. Having been a faithful husband and dad for 25 years. It has to be right.

That and "-People who have affairs are more likely to divorce. "

Big deal. I was told (and truly believe) that 50% of first marraiges end in divorce, any fucking way!!!

Analytical thinking......

.......Professors will have a field day with this one next semester!

Where is the thinking that,
men with lower testosterone are more likely to marry ?

Seems to me if testosterone is credited with driving the male sex drive (instinctive drive to creat progeny), then wouldn't those with less "drive" be more receptive to a sucessful monogamous relationship?

Sounds like another "researcher" started with a hypothesis and and "thought" his way to a positve conclussion!
