Tens of thousands of pro-life advocates gathered in Washington, D.C., Friday for the 2022 March for Life, declaring their support for the unborn and calling for an end to abortion in the United States. They've been doing it since 1973, the same year that abortion rights were deemed "constitutional" as a result of the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Now, nearly a half-century later, their dreams may become a reality.

This year, the Supreme Court is widely expected to overturn or at least dramatically roll back abortion rights established in Roe when it issues a ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a case that concerns a Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

During oral arguments last year, conservative justices on the nation's top court appeared inclined to side with the state in the case. Such a ruling — which is set to be issued this summer — would necessitate a drastic reinterpretation of abortion rights since legal precedents on the issue stem directly from Roe and a 1992 ruling, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, that reaffirmed Roe.

If it's a matter of numbers, they'll never outnumber the pro-choice crowd.

That's a weasel-word. I given the option, like in a vote, the American peoplewould outlaw about 80% of abortions. Is that pro-choice or pro-life?

What it is is nonsense. No way would that get a majority. Not even a ban on partial-birth abortions would get a majority.

Your assertion is belied by the pro-abortion demand that none of this ever see anything resembling a democratic vote.

True, but aren't you all about decisions being made as close to the people as possible? Can't get any closer than a referendum.

Because this really isn't referendum material. It's legislature material.

"Handmaiden's Tale" here we come. Yay!

And I thought you people claimed to love liberty...and yet you cheer when women's liberties are taken away.

"Go ahead and declare martial law, round em all up and haul em all off to Aushwitz.... but I'll still get to celebrate my freedoms as long as THEY DON'T TAKE MY GUNS AWAY!"

You could say that about any issue. The only difference I see here is if it were put to a referendum, your side would be a lot more likely to lose.

It was a different vibe today than in prior years. More upbeat. People are feeling good about how SCOTUS will rule on Dobbs. We’re getting close! 🇺🇸☀️🇺🇸

I'm convinced that very few "pro-lifers" really give a rat's ass about the life of any fetus. It's all evolved into an owning-the-libs thing.

What makes the difference?

The nuance of whtthe end legislation might look like. There may be alot of conditions and provisos that a legislture can winnow out in the amendment process that wouldn't be practical in a referendum with a single question on it.

That would depend on what the mesure said, no? And therein lies the problem: Who decides what goes into the language of the referendum?

Typically, you get a measure on the ballot by petition, and its language is in the petition.

They don't, but really it's more than just "Owning the libs." It's about repression and control. They want to control other people's choices, and other people's sexuality.

Nobody should ever imply that abortion is birth control. Most people, even most of the "libs" do not like abortion and would like to see the need for it dissappear. But they do acknowledge there are certain circumstances where there is a need for it- when the fetus is not viable, when the mother's life is endangered by a pregnancy, or in cases of rape or incest.

However, whenever someone pragmatically suggests ways to reduce the demand for abortion- increasing access to and availability of contraceptives, increasing access to birth control, funding more early child care, funding more sex education- guess who screams the loudest about how horrible this would be and tries to stop it? The SAME PEOPLE who want to ban all abortion!

It's blatant hypocrisy on their part but more than that it's dishonesty- dishonesty about their true motives. Rest assured, if the day ever comes where all abortions in this country are outlawed, they will not stop there. Next, they will push for all contraception and basically, all sex for non-procreative reasons to be banned.

Just like the Handmaiden's tale. Repression and control.

The right to get an abortion belongs to the woman, not some legislature. No woman makes the decision to have an abortion easily. The Pro-Life people never show everyone what an old-fashioned back alley or a do-it-yourself abortion looks like. They also don't show people the woman lying on a stainless table in the morgue from a botched back-alley abortion.

And where is the "right" defined? As in: Written down? How do we know it's a right?

Histrionic much?? LOL

We do, your right to liberty however ends when it infringes on the life of another.

Not at all, just that be responsible for their sexuality.

Nobody should ever imply that abortion is birth control.

Yet we know for a fact it gets used as such.

All those feminist out there loudly and proudly stating as much on their socials all day every day prove this.

Some of them getting knocked up just so they can get an abortion.

Absolute psycho's.

Just like the Handmaiden's tale. Repression and control.

No, just like sane society, personal responsibility.

I'm sure there isn't a high percentage of men being irresponsible leading to a woman's pregnancy.

It's all the woman's fault because she has the abortion

What right to get an abortion???

And since when did rights become absolute and totally untouchable?? Especially considering YOU directly consider rights that are explicitly enumerated and forbidden from infringement can be legally and constitutionally effective regulated out of existence, why not abortion???

No woman makes the decision to have an abortion easily.

Women on social media say otherwise, many celebrate it and do so with stated intention.

The Pro-Life people never show everyone what an old-fashioned back alley or a do-it-yourself abortion looks like. They also don't show people the woman lying on a stainless table in the morgue from a botched back-alley abortion.

No different than another junkie who OD's.....do black market shit, pay black market prices.

Unless she was assaulted then how is a woman's pregnancy in any way shape or form a mans responsibility???

Her body her choice....HER responsibility.

It's all the woman's fault because she has the abortion

Unless she was sexually assaulted no, it's all the woman's fault because she has total control over her choices and her body, she has all the conception/consent authority. :) if she's irresponsible with that control, that's on HER.

The ONLY reasons a woman gets pregnant is sexual negligence on her part.
