Number of US abortions fell by only 2% after wave of state bans, CDC report reveals

Despite the wave of state abortion bans that took effect after the US supreme court overturned Roe v Wade in June 2022, the number of abortions performed in the US fell by only 2% that year, according to the first major report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to tally abortion provision in the post-Roe United States.

The findings in the report, released Wednesday, echo other research that has uncovered that US abortion rates have surprisingly risen in the years since Roe’s demise. In 2023, the US saw more than 1m abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which tracks abortions and restrictions on the procedure – the highest number recorded in more than a decade.

So, why not? Are women leaving their home states to get abortions, or are they able to find doctors at home who are willing to ignore the bans?

This doesn't give a proper view of the effect of the overturning of Roe.

The dems dont give a fuck about Roe or abortion, its control of the electorate that concerns them. 96 percent of abortions have nothing to do with health care, its just another lie from the supreme liars in this country.

Some assault. Should be made of sterner stuff. Like "insurrections."

Mostly peaceful voters in opposition.

T'urrible Trry...

Roars. Wipe off the blackface. You should, I don't know, maybe take a year off, a unholy sabbatical...

100% of abortions are healthcare. Whether you agree with the reasoning is 100% misogyny.

Thankfully i live in the uk, a woman should be given the right to have an abortion, its her body, her choice

There has been an increase in tubal ligations and other permanent sterilization procedures in the United States since the Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision in June 2022. Just sayin! People are being more careful and I think that is a good thing. Not that I agree with Dobbs.

In the Dobbs decision, SCOTUS ruled on the constitutional question. If the outcome has not yielded the number of abortions people want, the can seek change through their elected representatives in the state legislatures.

So all the hysteria and histrionics from the left......total bullshit.

Offspring

Interesting term....almost seems independent

Not anymore than baby, zygote or fetus which literally means offspring.

Gotta dehumanize them before you butcher them.

You can consider whatever you wish.
It doesn't make it true.
You can fuck around with words to feel better about what you support.
Still a piece of shit.

I am of the opinion that the ruling was politically motivated and constitutionally flawed. Basic health care should not be subject to the whims of geographic location, and abortion is basic healthcare, whether you choose to admit it or not.

Denying doctors the right to prescribe Misoprostol without explicit legal review when time is of the essence (miscarriage), is causing pregnant women to "bleed out" and die from miscarriages in hospital parking lots.

Misoprostol is the primary drug used in abortion, but also has a valid medical use to expel an incomplete miscarriage as well. Essentially denying the usage in both cases to prevent the first case from happening is a......wait for it....miscarriage of justice.

How?

That's a nice feeling there but that doesn't make the ruling political and constitutionally flawed.

The ruling was obvious as fuck to anyone who wasn't a political activist totally ignoring the reality that states, our federalized system and 10A are things. No matter how much Democrats try to ignore their existence.

It was roe that was politically motivated and constitutionally flawed whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

What's really got most of you (D)emocrats bent is that you lost your political carrot to dangle in front of women....now everyone is going to watch Democrats avoid regulating it federally because then they lose that bait for the female vote. A fate they can't really avoid at this point, the only people who can pull that thorn out of the Democrats ass at this point is the GOP should they be dumb enough to ever acknowledge the issue.

SCOTUS ruled on the constitutional question. You may have a different legal opinion and that’s fine. But the role of the judicial branch is to resolve legal disputes, not make policy. If you want national abortion policies put in place, contact your Congress representatives. If you want abortion policies established at the state level, contact your state legislators.

From what dictionary?

Don't need to dehumanize any. Terminating a pregnancy is a valid medical procedure I am accepting of
You continue to be the one who can't accept it.

You can fuck around with words to feel better about what you support.

I don't change terminology. You do.

I'll be clear here - no matter what you call the state of pregnancy that is your own definition - I support a woman's ability to terminate her pregnancy at any time during her pregnancy.

You can call me names for that position, which doesn't require you changing terminology from medically accepted words.

Abrogating the "Promote the health and general welfare" clause of the Constitution is deeply flawed.
It runs contrary to American values. No amount of wordsmithing from you and/or the politically motivate Supreme Court can convince me otherwise. I hold moral and American high ground here. You do not.

I will admit to wondering if incomplete miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies on any pre-menopausal women in your life who you love (daughters, granddaughters, mistresses, wives, etc) would change your mind. It's been my experience that the only way to change a mindset such as yours is to have you experience the consequences of your beliefs personally. (See also: Anti-vaxxers knocking on Heaven's door begging for 'the jab" when they are too far gone to have it help).

I understand you have an innate need to get the last word in so I'll exit this discussion now.
