.Joe Manchin slammed in hometown paper op-ed: He 'wins' -- we 'lose'.

Senator Joe Manchin's intransigence in negotiations with members of his own party over a massive bill to develop America's infrastructure was blasted in an op-ed in his hometown newspaper -- just days after the same paper ran an op-ed from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who also took him to task.

On Sunday, Sanders wrote, "The Build Back Better plan is not only vitally important for seniors, but it is enormously important for working families and their children. As a result of the $300 direct payments to working class parents which began in the American Rescue Plan, we have cut childhood poverty in our country by half. It would be unconscionable to see those payments end, which is exactly what will happen if we do not pass this bill."

Manchin fired back at Sanders by issuing a statement that read, in part: "This isn't the first time an out-of-stater has tried to tell West Virginians what is best for them despite having no relationship to our state."

Manchin won't be able to make the same response to the former Charleston Gazette-Mirror contributor who penned Thursday's criticism of the senior Democratic senator. According to Dan Kurland, "Manchin wins, West Virginia loses."

I agree, but any state that voted for Trump by the margin WV did is asking to lose.

I keep thinking what LBJ would have done in this case. For starters I think he would have called Manchin in on the carpet, made him wait until he begged to use the bathroom, and then, while he was saddled up to the urinal, LBJ would come in, grab him by the balls, and tell him he'd use multiple avenues to slip into public awareness what Manchin owns that he's protecting and who owns Manchin if he didn't "compromise better." If that didn't work, LBJ would strip him of his pants and cattle prod him down Pennsylvania Avenue. Then he'd describe what Manchin would do now for them both to save face and Manchin would do it.

West Virginia is no different than Texas. They vote to harm themselves and then call themselves free. Number one state for coal powered electricity...and the state with the HIGHEST electricity bills. We need to stop helping states like this. Use our money in states that try to better themselves instead

And yet the West Virginia governor has been very open about trying to get people to vaccinate, mask, and social distance.

West Virginia is one of only six states that do not allow religious or philosophical exceptions to their school vaccination mandates.

A remnant of the fact that it was a blue state until about 2000. Amazing how quickly if flipped.

Manchin has just about had enough of the lunatic fringe of the DNC, which is in actuality about 85% of the party today. He only need jump ship to independent or GOP status and the Biden agenda collapses like a the tower of oatmeal it's always been.

He made how much off of his coal investments?

May he roast in hell!!

Assssssssssshole

Bipartisan my assssss

He just wastes time and waters down shit for no reason

Megalomaniac

The arrogance with which you demonstrate your stupidity and closed mindedness. At one point we used to say not to judge another man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Now we have some people that think they know better what's in the best interest of other people. Unreal.

Is that the road you want to travel? You betas are not going to like it.

You seem upset.

Backing the corrupt, criminal, treasonous, lecherous, racist Trump as you do makes your post hilarious. :D

Ok Boomer! I'll ask you again. You want to go down that road? You're not going to like how that dance ends for you all.

So you're thinking a state that went heavy for Trump is all for another $5 trillion in spending, do ya?

Polling shows a vast majority of Manchin’s constituents support the full package, clean energy and all, including 56 percent of Republican likely voters. Acuff believes Manchin won’t be able to win reelection, and though people outside the state opine over whether he’ll switch parties, Acuff says there’s no chance. “West Virginia’s Republicans hate Joe Manchin with a purple passion,” he says, “because he doesn’t do anything for working people at all. And the Trump base in West Virginia is working people.”

The average monthly residential bill (as measured by the residential rate for 1,000 kilowatt-hours) for AEP’s West Virginia utilities escalated from $55.28 in 2006 to $138.57 in 2021 — an increase of 150% over 15 years.

“West Virginians are paying [a price] because of their leaders’ efforts to defend coal and gas against market forces and a world increasingly and justifiably concerned about climate change,” Sean O’Leary, a senior researcher for the Ohio River Valley Institute, a nonprofit think tank, said in an email.

'We're not a bunch of deadbeats': West Virginians turn on Manchin for blocking much-needed help

According to a report from the Washington Post, voters back in West Virginia are furious with Sen. Joe Manchin (D) for bullying his fellow Democrats to take out much-needed aid for poorer families, saying they could use the financial assistance and he is disregarding them.

Of particular concern is Manchin wanting to limit an expanded child tax credit that could have a positive impact on thousands of West Virginia families.

As the Post reports, "... the moderate Democrat from West Virginia implied he would not support extending the monthly payments, which come in the form of an expanded child tax credit, without changes," saying in an interview, "There's no work requirements whatsoever. There's no education requirements whatsoever for better skillsets. Don't you think, if we're going to help the children, that the people should make some effort?"

:)

Manchin reportedly visited Biden at the Delaware house. No word if any breakthroughs were achieved.

I don't believe the Sierra Club. Not as far as I can throw their cars.

The last time I drilled down on the Sierra Club I found that most of the money they collect from "members" go to a 'K' Street lobbying firm. And it just so happens that a senior partner in that firm also sits on the Sierra Clubs BoD. What isn't spent on lobbying is paid to officers and staff of the "club."

In other words, unlike Ducks Unlimited or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation that actually spend their money on habitat etc., the Sierra club spends all their money on themselves and lobbyists.

There are cases after cases where they have filed for injunctions based on misinformation and out and out lies. Why many of those in the law firm haven't been disbarred is a mystery to many.

There's the money shot. Perfectly reasonable observation on his part.

There's nobody now on the Pub side, nobody at all, who could make any Dem his bitch like that.

The only chance the Dems. had in a fight is Tulsi Gabbard and you all have pushed her out of the party. Schumer can't get Trump's erection out of his mind. Maybe Nancy with a little more makeup can master that Frankenstein look and scare some people.
