Betweeen some of the threads here on the GB and some stuff I've been reading on the how-to, it's stunning to me just how many people (either registered here or s/o's, children, etc of posters) are taking antidepressants; apparently often not just one, but a whole cocktail of things.

Yikes. I mean, obviously, you know, people who are suffering/struggling and so on need what they need and all, but golly, I am just amazed at how many of us seem to be taking lots of stuff.

Pills are just technology that can be used or abused like any other.

it might be only a coincidence.... maybe people who are suffering need confort, so they come here for that.

Or we are a bunch of weirdo!

With Ecstasy now costing between £2.50 and £5 a pop in the UK who can blame them:D (6 - 8 dollars)

ya. I'v noticed that to..... but it's better than the older alternitive. Whish is to become hooked on boze!! I guess??

I guess, I dunno.

One of the things that always hits me over the head when I come back to the US is the amount of prescription drug advertising as well. It really kinda seems as though we're being sold the notion that whatever problem it is we think we're having somewhere out there there is a pill that will fix it. It's kinda scary.

There's one commercial for some non-prescription "diet aide" that I see all the friggin time since I got here and the voiceover guy describes it very excitedly as "America's hottest new superpill!" I find that a bit creepy.

Yep, I know what you mean....because I am one of those pill-popping people.

I really don't like having to take the stuff. I don't like having to give my kids the stuff. But I don't like the way we are off the meds, either. And one daughter absolutely HAS to take meds, because she is bipolar (used to be called "manic-depressive").

My drugs of choice: caffeine and chocolate. For the really bad times, copious amounts of bourbon work wonders.

I'm only on one anti-depressant and as much as I dislike taking it, I feel like it's literally given me my life back. I could barely function before going on it no matter what I tried.

pills can be good fun if you know when to quit.

i've known a lot of people who didn't. half are in jail or going. the other half are just losers.

Personally I think that doctors overmedicate people who possibly just need some counselling. The medical profession has a tendency to pathoolgize depression that could possibly be caused by problems in the person's life. They prefer to sedate and prescribe rather than get to the actual root of the person's problem. :)

Just a thought.

I'm all for better living through chemistry.

Seratonin uptake inhibitors are the bomb.

I only pop pills when in pain or sick as a dog. I'm with BBW I much prefer beer!
