Oh fuck me! The very first snow day and the kids are mucho excited. *sigh* help!

Do you remember when snow days were a good thing? When you would hear that school had been cancelled and there was great rejoicing? You would run around the house whooping and swearing that your snow dance had worked? Okay maybe that was just me.

Funny thing is I never noticed how quiet my mother became. I probably didn't notice the slight droop of her shoulder or the mutter prayer of 'give me strength'.

In the interests of not being the spoilsport on my kids very first snow day of this school year... perhaps I should remember what I used to do. Except I can't. Perhaps I have blocked it out. The real possibility is that I am simply so damn old that my memory is going.

So I will ask you! What did you like most about snow days? And what do you remember doing?

I remember watching tv until the cartoons were off, then begging Mom to go outside and play in the snow. Back in for lunch and Bozo's Circus while our gloves and pants dried then back at it with the neighborhood kids until we were frozen or Mom called us in...snowmen, snowball fights, sledding, etc...Man I loved snow days!!

Mom pretty much would ship us outside for the bulk of the day when we were younger. As we got older it meant shoveling the driveway, cleaning off her car, doing household chores, and usually off to play video games when the others were done.

She's now working for a school and so now looks forwards to snow days where she can sit at home and do her crafts.

I have had the opposite of a snow day when the temperature is above 45 degrees (100 Fahrenheit), but we still had to go to school. Then we would race home and jump under the sprinkler or all run around to that one mates house that had a pool.
