Mama Blu's

Cover Charge Fri. 1/24

Ahh... well I got a lot of stuff done today. Actually got out of the house and went over to the parents'. I am sitting here watching the kids sled down the hill. [laughs] It makes me think of when I was a kid. Granted I grew up in Texas, so not a lot of snow, but on the rare occasion (and then when we moved to a state that got a lot of snow) I did enjoy bundling up and zipping down a hill or two. And I remember, when the boys were little, all of us getting outside to play in the snow. One year we had so much snow we made a snow fort. So much fun.

So question for tonight... when was the last time you got out and played in the snow? Not moved through the snow in order to get things done or shoveled the driveway... when was the last time you played in the cold white fluffy stuff?

It was 1989. The lady I was with at the time had two little ones, about 3 and 6. We lived in Florida and we were back in Illinois for Christmas. They had never seen snow so I took them out the first chance we had and we had a grand 'ol time. Snowball fights, built their first snowman, sledding, the whole deal. I had as much fun as they did. And that was it. Shot my snow wad right then and there 'cause I've never been out in the stupid shit again on purpose. Fuck snow, winter and everything that goes along with it. We're getting pounded here in northern Illinois, wave after wave of bitter cold and snow. Ugh.

[laughs] So not since 1989? Seriously? 24 years?

did I do the math correctly on that?

Lets see...The last time I even saw snow I was 14 or 15 so that is 26 years ago on a school ski trip. Wow that is a long time ago. Oh and that is the only time I have been in the snow as well so there you go.

1 week of snow life crammed in. We went skiing, sledding, built snowmen, had snowball fights, did stupid stuff like sit in the sauna and then dive off the balcony into snow drifts. All the usual stuff.

Oh and Blu the chicken recipe was a jar pre made thing. Just heat and serve. We just add fresh chicken. I learnt though it would have been much better with fresh carrots, onion, peas, maybe some broccoli florets. Definately needed fresh vegies too. Even the kids said so.

Last Christmas. My family and I spent the holiday in Gatlinburg. Took the tram up to Obergatlinburg for some sledding & skiing and ice skating. It was a difficult holiday for us all due to the recent loss of a loved one. Those few hours I was in the frozen snow and ice where awesome. I managed to forget.....For just a little while. My Nephew who was 6 at the time had played so hard he fell asleep on the tram ride back down. Memories I will never forget.

A few years back, in Santa Fe for work. Went up to the local ski resort (closed at the time) and spent the afternoon sliding on inner tubes and having snowball fights with a couple of co-workers

Hey Wombie!

That sounds like a blast. I am trying to think of someone seeing snow for the first time. What did you think of it?

As to dinner... wow! your kids asked for fresh veggies? how the hell did you work that?

Well helloooo Nurse! [laughs] I have always wanted to say that. Welcome to Blu's.

It sounds like that trip was exactly what you guys needed. Did you ever go back?

Oh! And can I get you a drink?:rose:

Gatlinburg is one of my fave areas. My dad has a cabin there. When I want peace and quiet I head to "cabin fever"..Thank you for the drink offer. Too cold for anything other than hot chocolate.

You're close enough on the math and I'm thinking it might be another 24 until I play in it. Then I'll be dead or close enough to it I won't care anymore. I hate snow with such a passion if I never see it again it would be fine. I say this as I reside in Chicago. I. Am. An. Idiot.

Awww... poor Mr. Wonderful. Would you like some hot chocolate as well?

Far, far too long. Don't get much down here, and when we do it is usually more ice then snow. I would say... 10 years ago... just some friends and I throwing what we could make of what was around.

I also have a thought of throwing a snow ball at you Blu. But I'll behave

We can do that here ;)

That sounds like a great get away. What do you like best about it?

Oh My, That is grand. Thank You !

I love the area. It is very private. Quiet. The cabin has so many memories. I remember playing under the staircase with my Brother when we where younger. Lots of glass and exposed wood. Fireplace. Big ol comfy beds..View of the Smokey Mountains. Grab that Cocoa and lets go !

No whining when I hit back. [laughs] I can make a mean snowball. ;)

And how are you tonight?

Why yes Miss Blu, that would be awesome. Just like you! :D

Anytime, sweets. With marshmallows or without?

I'm in! As long as I can hang out in front of the fireplace, I am all in! [laughs]

Just enjoying the flow of the threads, the interesting pm here and there, and starting up Big Trouble right now. I didn't get a chance to start it yesterday, so having it play in a window while I am on here will be nice.

You? I bet you want to go on a sleigh ride for some reason ;p

And I hope you have some more whiskey, southern comfort ready for me. Neat :D

Ha Ha yes that is the reaction we always get. We have fed the kids Vegetables since they started solids, same as we ate just mashed up. Now if we don't have them after 3 nights they complain.

I have an 8' tobaggon (true ladies) which I used to ride with my kids whe they were little. I had it out last year at the nearby state park with a niece's kids. That was the last time unless you you count walking in snowy woods as playing.
