"When someone does you the favor of taking the trash out, don't go bringing it back in."

Probably the best piece of advice I've ever been given. I admit I have slipped once or twice but in the end, truer words have never been spoken. So as I sit here thinking about advice not taken and the whys of it, it makes me wonder about what other words of wisdom are out there.

So help a girl out today and tell me....

What's the best piece of advice you have ever been given? And did you take it?

Don't share everything, not everyone has your best interests at heart.

I still make mistakes with this, but boy am I learning.

oh that's a good one. The hard thing is finding those few people who do. So far, I think I have found a grand total of 4? Excluding family.

We are on the same boat.

Is it just me or is it terrifying to even think that someone could become important? Could possibly have your best interests at heart? I'm so used to people not caring that when someone comes along who might, I get all weirded out. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

One of my issues is thinking that people have my back the same way I have theirs.
I usually listen to my intuition, it never fails.
I also go by how I'm treated publicly and privately.
If someone is not genuine, it will surface one way or another. :rose:

Mine stems mainly from abandonment issues I think. I long ago stopped expecting others to do as I do. It's just easier to not raise my expectations. I have had so many people who when I was down and out and needing someone to help me, walk away that I now expect it. I expect for people to think I am too much of a hassle, too much of a pain in the ass, basically just too damn much. It takes me a long time to begin to trust. I hate that about me but I can't seem to shake it.

On the other hand though, if I know you have my back, if you have shown through word and deed that you are in for the long haul, I would crawl through fire for you. Like I said, the number of people who have that is very very small.

Don't let the fear of what could happen make nothing happen.
